What she said.

Greg, if you're 29 your wife must be 18. I didn't know living in P-town inspired such altered realities.

No pics but we rolled through some low lands and what became affectionately known as the dried up two track talcum powder trail. Wasn’t so bad if you were in the lead but if you hit it at speed and were following someone too close your world got small in a hurry. Heard several stories of wash outs and white outs.

Down the road a ways we hold up at a gate to regain the shape of the group.

Here’s Pat.

And what is left of some bovine.

We climb out of the alkali bed.

Dust entrails behind us.

The section of route from Diamond to our meeting point with the chase truck is 80 miles. We are getting close.

Lono and Christian.

We all meet up at the chase truck where Jim has brought us sandwiches, chips and cookies.

We load the non plated bikes on the chase truck. We have a 25 mile section of slab to cart them over before getting back on the dirt.

And enjoy the warm sun.

With the slab behind us we are back on the trail. This section of the route is just north of Highway 20 on the OBDR route #5 and has some particularly nasty rocky sections spread over a ten mile stretch. Much of what is referred to as the “road” actually resembles a dried up drainage ditch, and it may have been that, but there is very little soil in between the rocky mess. If you read about the OBDR, particularly those who have tackled it on big bore bikes, this section almost always is referred to with weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Here are a few pics of one of the milder sections.

Here’s an original OBDR trail marker. Very rare to see these out here anymore.

From here the route smooths out and we pick up the speed on some fun cruising roads.

Great scenery!

The rest of the afternoon is high speed cruising through scenic river valleys polka dotted with big ranches and remnants of old homesteads.

We arrive back at the staging area at just before 5 pm. Time for a couple cold ones while we swap stories (some of them partially true).

195 miles for the day, 513 for the trip! Thanks guys for a great ride with a great group of guys!

Until next time…

He had a spiral fracture on both his tibia and fibula. Couldn't be treated in Burns so he took a long ambulance ride to Bend where they added a titanium rod to his tibia.

I picked him up at the hospital and he stayed with me until his wife could retrieve him - Dr. said no driving!

He's doing fine. Saw him a few days ago. Walking with a slight limp but no cast and should be back to normal in a few months.

Says he needs to dial it down a bit now that he's getting older.

But I've heard that before!

TSA will have fun with him from now on.

Naaasty!

Crashing sucks... It's tough when the rocks are hiding in the brush. Could you clear all of them out before I come down in July please?

For sure! I never did actually see the infamous "bush hidden rock" but next time through there I'm going to stop and take a picture!

Those thing are every where just waiting for an unsuspecting rider to come along and get you.
