Ripfest 1/2 dirt bike extravaganza- Thumb of Michigan

RIPFEST ONE HALF, dirt bike adventure weekend

where:
applegate, michigan
m25 lakeshore rd between lexington and port sanilac, Michigan
exact address and gps coordinates will be posted in Spring.
80 acres of private land and trails
We are directly across the street from Lake Huron so you can walk on beach
or boat, kayak, fish, jet ski....You could make this a family event.

when:
MAY 15, 16, and 17. 2015
weekend after Spring Fever Ride

what is it?:
I got a strong bias towards old 2 strokes...so if you still have one..dust it off...mix some fuel....and lets roost away. ..that sound is special...make 5 foot tall berms.
This is my private property, I don't like rules. Be SAFE, have fun, no lights, no plate, no spark arrestor, no dnr stickers, thats all AOK here.
If you have a modern 4 stroke with push button starting thats ok but break out the oldies if you got one. You will ride in circles on an mxer but it will still be fun.

Ok, I got a plate and am legal:
Even better. I will be leading two or more 150 mile gravel loops on a KTM 380 exc and we will have lots of gas stops and lunch so if limited fuel range thats not an issue.

More legal: I try to have as few rules as possible but expect to sign a legal waiver to ride on the property.
I hate to do it but its a necessity in a country of lawyers.
I want you to ride safe and not get hurt. I also want to keep our family farm.

Where do I stay?
I am offering free tent space this weekend, we have several nice sites with firepits, picnic tables, firewood and lots of room, porta potty thats clean and smells good and house with hot shower, water.
We have 2 amish built cabins that are about 10 x 40, hold maybe 8 people each.
We have a modern cottage 2 story, its a regular house, very nice for rent.

Whats the riding like?
We have some trails that are good for a day or so.
We have gravel roads for miles and I will lead some rides over the weekend.

Do I need full knobbies?
Yes, you do.
We will ride gravel roads about 50 mph or so.
The rocks will fly, buy proper gear, a flak jacket.
This ride will be mainly all out dirt bikes, I am on a 380 exc, kickstart.

But I ride a KLR650 with 50/50 tires:
Thats OK, I have one also, bring it we will need a street ride captain, route planner
which is NOT me on this event. However, you are very welcome to attend and watch this post because I can almost guarantee a streety ride will be in the works, just not by me.
I like all bikes and own many different machines.
I am running a dirt ride but plenty of room for other ideas and great scenery in the thumb area.

more cabins fully equipped across the street are run by neighbors.
You can RV or trailer for free but no power or hook ups, we are not KOA.

Looks like I may have to dig the old TS 250 out of the barn and blow the stink out of it.

Looks like a good place to test run my 1977 PE250. I am in the middle of rebuilding it. I want to do some of the vintage rides with it. Also have 400 KTM street legal. For the bigger rides. Can you let me know cost of rentals yours or the ones across the street

Best to bring a couple bikes if you have them.
Plenty of room to do trail laps on an mxer but a plated bike will also be handy.
I do ride miles on gravel with a 250sx KTM around the area so if you do that you are on your own, hate to have somebody ticketed so you take that risk on your own.
On the flip side, never saw police on gravel just on the tarby.
As far as my cottage and cabins go, I am having inside place on a first come basis and just kick in a couple dollars, all I need is enough to pay my 60 cleaning fee so I can rent it out the next weekend and I am good.
That translates into get here early unless you are camping, pick your spot and donate 10 to my hired cleaning help. So its a cheap event.
I think the neighbors cabins rent for around 75 per night.
Also wide range of hotels in port huron which is 28 miles away would work.
I am not a morning person so its more like kickstands up at 10am so plenty of time to get breakfast, get thru a hangover, and gear up for a ride.

Looks like Doug in the bib overalls.
So I can only haul one bike.
Tight single tracks?
Or should I bring my KX?

just one bike, how sad

A lighted bike is best...at least you can pretend its legal.
next up is that KX because I want to ride it.
and I see you have a yamaha thats new.
I can loan out my thrash bike, old 250sx with big tank.
It hits hard, perfectly jetted, it will make you chuckle.
Or you can kick over a 380 if you want a thrill.
None of the trails are tight but I will be cutting in a few new ones.
One wide main trail and some other loops.
The woods are pretty open as we did logging twice.
You can just trailblaze in a lot of places and my hunters have paths up to their shelters.
Its not a huge place but its a really nice bit of property to have as your own.
I am trying to break a trail that goes along and thru our creek as I like water crossings.
Most trails are grass or hardpacked so an intermediate knobby tire is best but any full knobbies are aok.
You can ride a bigger bike or a klr 50/50 but will be a slower pace.
Nothing demanding and not miles of trails like up north, its just a really big backyard.
Plenty of fun for the weekend.
I will try to post some pics but need to get set up on expensive satellite internet service in the new year.
