950 vs 990 help me decide

Thinking of selling my well set up dr 650 my 07 300xcw and looking to buy an adventurer, either a 950 or a 990. Would appreciate hearing any plus and minuses between the two. One thing I've heard is the fi on the 990's is twitchy and that many prefer the carbureted over fi models. What's the maintenance like, or does servicing require a shops skills?

Any input from 950 and 990 owners would be much appreciated!

LOL! I actually had it in the garage like that facing my Dakar to do some head-to-head comparisons of bar height, pegs heights, etc. Trying to get the cockpit to match the feel of 7 years worth of tweaking on the Dakar is proving challenging, ;) It IS fast though and maybe I should get some tie-downs to strap it in while I'm overseas working...

The twitchy throttle on the 990 is most noticeable when finessing through really technical single track. Even the 950 can be abrupt then.

Service intervals are average. My valves were at 44k miles when adjusted and still only 1 needed done. It's removing the tanks that kills time.

Pending the year and model will determine the seat height and suspension travel.

They are both great bikes

My newest addition to the garage up at Laguna Hansen in Mexico. I have rode my 530 many times there but its the first for the 990 and although its not the 530 I did enjoy the ride. The section of sand whoops (if you have been there then you know the area) prove to be challenging but doable with a few drops, nothing major but its definitely not like picking up the 530

Disagree. That's where my KTM tank bag has been secured for 31K miles.. No damage.

I think he was thinking that you could free up some leg room if you put them to the passenger foot rests.
