How to stand out on a Harley Ride.

Hi all. My wife and I went on a Harley charity ride for Disabled Vets today.
It was our first such event, Poker run and all.
First of all I don't want to make waves but we felt like preachers in a pirate factory. After all, all these folks were here to support a good cause.
I would venture a guess that if I would have played (Born to be Wild) over the loud speakers 17 people would have answered their cell phones.
We even saw a Sons of Anarchy leather jacket. The poker run map was really odd as it only gave addresses to go to not the name of the place so their was a few people lost.
Lots of donuts and good coffee to be had at the first stop and ending with a beer stop and then back to the Harley shop.
We were sporting the only mesh gear which my wife got a compliment on.

Ive been there.....on such rides, PGR missions etc.

Ive outgrown the concern for what they wear and what they ride.....they dont really care much about what I wear, nor do I for that matter.

Ive even bought a vest.....so I can play pirate on occasion to.

Still havent found a cool eye patch yet though.

Did they ask why your twin doesn't shake itself apart at idle?

I did a few toy runs on a CBR years ago. That was always interesting!

I went to a "All Makes Bike Night" at a Harley dealer one time. Rode a Ducati Monster, I felt like the french guy from Talladaga Nights. Ton's of leather and beer!

I gave up on going anywhere where Harleys are in huge numbers. Not a charity ride, but a local swap meet with bikers from all over New England. I needed some turn signals for a project I was working on (an FZ600 gone Mad Max, red engine, gold frame, chopped frame to single seat, drag bars, dual front lights ). Anyway, rode to the meet on a 454Ltd, found some bullet lights, went back to fetch my bike only to find it on the ground with bent handlebars, twisted forks, and shoe prints on the tank. Five or so Hell's Angels were standing nearby, laughing as I picked the bike up and tried starting it. Eventually it did, and I rode out of there 10mph, holding the bars sideways to steer straight.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I try to stay away from Harley events since.

Wow, sorry to hear about the bike getting trashed.
I didn't hear any ill comments.
My wife was sitting on a sportster and a women came by and said(looks good on ya) with out blinking my wife said, No thanks it doesn't lean over far enough! I just about rolled a tear down my leg.
I did not have anyone ask (what is a KTM)
I could tell they were thinking it though.

I've been known to invade a few pirate rides for a good cause as well.

I went on a benefit pirate ride once. Paid my money. The guy came around handing out maps. He saw my Suzuki and passed me by.

Jerk.

Their not all jerks though. Just a few. And frankly, there are a few here on this forum that are jerks toward the pirate crowd too. I know more than a few of those guys that will not blink an eye at the prospect of doing a 1,000 mile day. And they ride pretty much regardless of the weather...

I showed up at one on the Goldwing once. Felt like I was on a different planet. I found a guy riding a Honda Valkerie and we hit it off right away. We did the nickel trick on the heads. A pirate walked over and asked what we were doing. I pointed to the nickel standing on edge while the motor was idling. He said "that just ain't right" and walked off. He was the only pirate that even spoke to either of us.
