Question Ground Clearance?

It looks like mostly F800 people here and I'm just a lowly F650 type but have a question about the lower pegs, such as Precision Engineering & Wunderlich that both claim 2" lower. How's the ground clearance on these things, particularly as relates to the lowly F650, that is standard heighth (not factory lowered)?

Went to the bike store looking for pegs. Naturally they have nothing for a BMW in stock. Maybe they can order them, maybe not.

So I take a piece of paper and a pen from the counter and go outside and "measure" my pegs for the mount angle, width etc.

I go back in and browse the shelves.

There are pegs from a KLX250/450 that look like they'll come close. But they are marked $160. There's another set there in silver, from another brand but identical in every way....$80.

WooHoo.

Some filing, some drilling, some making of larger diameter pivot pins and:

Job done.

The left side just touches the side stand. I'm going to grind a little angle off that corner and polish it.

Well pleased with myself now.

Looks like a lot of people really enjoy the Pivot Pegz. I ordered a pair from Touratech today. I'll post pics when they are installed.

I have my Pivot Pegz sitting in my new panniers waiting for my bike to get home from the shop!

Touratech extended

As long as we're in archeology mode, I'll make a point about the Touratech extended. I have them on my 2010 F800GS and they are only slightly bigger than stock (I'd say less than 1cm, I could go out and measure but I'm lazy). They are a brilliant upgrade for F650 Dakar, which has stock pegs that have a really, really narrow platform. Compared to stock F8 pegs the difference probably isn't worth the money.

I have Fastway pegs on my TE250 and love them. I should have bought those for my GS... oh well.

I got a set this winter also. I'm still waiting to put some miles on them. I also ended up adding a Wunderlich shifter. The Pivot Pegz make it a little harder to get your foot under the shifter, so the longer Wunderlich adjustable solves it.

Just a heads up for owners of the 2013 F800GS...

The Pivot Pegz model PP-13MK3 does NOT fit this bike. I shoulda known, as even on the box it lists models from 2008 to 2012. Who would have imagined that the 2013 would be different?

Waiting from a reply from them to see if they're coming out with another model or have a solution. Nothing on their website indicates they've got one for the 2013.

The issue is that even with the included spacer (which is marked as being for a 1200GS) this model is way too narrow to fit properly. It falls to the lower end of the "pin" holding the Pegz in place. Plus the spring for the sidestand hits the left Pegz and sort of wedges behind it making it harder to raise the sidestand. (Don't know if this applies to all 2013 F800GS or only to factory-lowered ones, like mine is.)

Interesting that the Pivot Pegz don't fit the 2013. I have the Touratech Works pegs and they fit fine on my 2013, and they specify all years of F800GS. The Pivot Pegz must be bigger or something.

I was looking at pegs for my 13 and saw this. So I did some digging.

the BMW part numbers for the 2012 and 2013 are identical, no change, so maybe you have a bad production run?

+1 of that... Touratech and Wunderlich don't do any difference between the 4 bikes.

Maybe you chose the wrong side?

It may well be an issue with the lowered bikes only, then.

Good question, so I looked.

Lowered and Standard use the same peg, peg bracket and hardware.

On the parts fiche they do call out if it's lowered, then there is a different part number Example: kickstand
