Kim and Mike's Most Excellent 2010 Adventure to Fin del Mundo (End of the Earth)
Soooo...
"What are you two doing this winter? Bikes put away for the season, battery tender connected and fuel drained? You're going to be bored aren't you? What are you going to do with yourselves? Are you going to do anything interesting? You going to keep yourselves entertained with skiing all winter?" Ah..... nope. Afraid we're going to continue to ride this winter. ![]() ![]() In NH, in the snow? Well, not quite. So where are you two going? Some place warmer in the winter actually. It's kinda headed towards summer this time of year in fact. We're headed to.... ![]() Santiago, Chile and thence to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. Along the way we hope to see some of this... ![]() perhaps some of this... ![]() A little of this... ![]() eat a little of this... ![]() ride some of this... ![]() Do a little of this... ![]() That's Kim in the red dress. (I don't know who that guy is... I think she said that his name was Rodrigo and he was just a friend.) ...and finally when we reach Ushuaia, maybe see some of these guys... I'll probably be hanging out with them solo after the Rodrigo incident. ![]() We'll have a Spotwalla tracker up so if you want to follow our tracks up in real time, you'll be able to and it will be active November 13, 2010. You can find it here: Until later!

You two are going to have the time of your lives.
Be prepared for big winds on the Southern part of your route though. ![]()

Winds, winds, we spit into the face of winds....
Frostbit,
Thanks for the warning! You are oh so right and we know you have first hand experience in this area. However, we too now have wind experience having willingly ridden into the teeth of the Icelandic Waterup. So we'll see who has more cajones. The Chilean winds or the Icelandic Waterup. Now that we think of if, perhaps we better not spit into the face of the winds...

Here We Go Again
Take me along with you. Well virtually at least. Why do I have a feeling this is going to be epic? I know how much you enjoy riding through water.

Looks like a great riide!!
I just got back from almost the same route you are planning to TDF. We started in Bolivia. PM me for any suggestions you may be looking for. Are you renting bikes in Santiago? Do the Caraterra Austral...much more scenic than Ruta 40. As said watch the wind...it blew two out of four of us off the road.
You'll have an awesome trip!!

I live in Santiago, so feel free to contact me when you arrive and maybe we can ride somewhere around or give you some advise on where and how to go down south....as VT beemer said the chilean side is more scenic, and you can cross to Argentina way down south (Paso Roballo) and get back to Chile near Ushuaia, just to get to Torres del Paine....

Hey Geoff,
Gate crashing is welcomed on this trip. You didn't know that? Well get that GS in gear son! If you can't watching closely is fully authorized and we'll do the same on our end OK? Our best to you! Mike and Kim

Starting in Bolivia... Hmmm....
VTBeemer (Dan),
We took a look at your blog and now you have us all excited and drooling and all. But we now still have nine LONGER days to go before we leave. So thanks! ![]() We'll see what we can do about route changes; thanks for the suggestion. Perhaps we can get together when we get back and compare notes. All the best, Mike and Kim
