Should I Buy A Hyosung GT250?

Just found some new employment and it's time to get my first MC for the sake of practicality and necessity. As much as I love my scooters they are small. I need a bigger bike. One with gears.

New employment or no, budget is a concern. And I need a MC almost immediately. The thing about the Hyosung GT250 is that i really do like it. It's rock bottom price notwithstanding. I like it's look and it would make a good, full size commuter bike. Just so you know, that is all I am interested in atm. Something comfortable I can take on local freeways and around city streets. Easy fuel, easy insurance.

I post this in the Cali forum because of the way we ride here. I would think this sort of bike is good for lane splitting and filtering and urban area freeways, right? BUT....

....it is a Hyosung! And some say yes and some say no to that. I know it is not the most refined bike, but here is what I am looking at for around $2000 after I make an offer

or

It's said Bert's Mega Mall has a bunch of leftovers, but who knows? This bike worth $3000 give or take "new?" I think it is just based on the fact I like it's looks and style. It's "just a motorcycle."

But is it a good one? Decent, at least? I wish this one were black.

Wonder how much it cost to paint a motorcycle in ELA

I'd personally look for a Kawasaki Ninja 250 or the Honda equivalent. The hyosung may be reliable, I don't know, but eventual resale on the Kawasaki or Honda will be much higher.

thanks for that

trouble is i am tall. and big. like a linebacker. now i know riders with experience can get comfortable and ride just about any size bike big or small, but when i have tried the Ninja or anything that size its been no way. just so narrow and cramped

so yes, the full size frame of the Hyosung for a first bike is attractive to me. won't be my last bike. a supersport is coming (used) but it won't be a daily rider. i know this already

resale on a used Hyosung? meh...its $2,000. if i get half that after three years i am ok. most likely get more, though. $1500 or something....

That right there is the key. The way I look at resale is if I can walk away after selling it and think "I easily got $500 of functionality/fun out of that bike" then it was worth it. You will be hard-pressed to find any form of transportation that is that new and only depreciates $500 in three years.

Question then becomes how reliable are these and are you going to pump a bunch of money into a $2000 motorcycle to keep it running? I have no idea what the reliability record on these are.

It is a very nice looking bike though! I like the naked streetfighter look and I like white bikes, so I think it's pretty cool.
