Silver lining of being up there later than planned:

WOW the milky way tonight!!!
Saw a cute little fox. Saw several big elk and they were even courteous and didn't try to kill us by dashing in front of the truck or anything! Also heard them bugelling or whatever it's called. Never actually got to hear that before.

Bill, we'll be watching for those pics!

WTF... I dropped the Ural off at GO AZ today and I cannot for the life of me make the bog down happen again. I even rode around for a 1/2 hour on the loop 101 hitting freeway speeds, climbing up on ramps and not a problem. No the hell is up with that rig.

Left it at the dealer and asked them to do their best guess . That will be an interesting bill

Paul, Thanks for the offer of help.

Brian, Thanks for the help and attempt at towing.

Bill, thank for posting the ride. Was a fun couple of days!

Brain, yes we will have to get together for a URAL ride soon. Maybe even a snow ride in November?

I am not a Ural mechanic but I have had bikes that have had major bogging issues in the past. The things I found wrong:

KLR Fuel vent hose kinked or my weight more than the mechanic and pinched the tube. Resolution slash cut vent hose and several other holes in vent tube.

Loose fuse holder on my BMW. The wire connections were intermittent in the fuse box area. Tightened all up and added dialeectric greese.

Honda 360 bogged badly above 5,000 feet and wouldn't run worth a dam for quite a while after. Changed to NGK plugs and new plug resistors and never happened again.

Just some things to check. Oh yeah, does that have an oil bath air filter? I had a VW bug with an oil bath filter. It always took some time for it to clear up after I had tipped too far. The plug would take a bit to clear out the foul from the oil in the chamber.

All problems seem to compound when you are at altitude.
Good luck, let us know if you need help. I have never torn a Ural apart.

TIA,

Yes Brian/Brain, another Ural and yes, we should go for a ride. Well, soon. Once the rig is fixed up again. Where do you take Bonnie's for service? Anyone you recommend?
So far I have done all the service myself. On our trip to Colorado we had a strange issue with the engine cutting out when it was windy, if you put your hand near the air cleaner it would stop. Some kinda weird vortex or something.

You could try Dillon over at Zen Moto.

Dave, a ride in the snow would be fun.

Wow!
That is like the European version of a Sherman tank with a Howitzer.
It is a Russian war machine with a German Badger dog! (Fierce creatures)

Thanks IBRiding for hosting a awesome ride this weekend. Right from the beginning it started off a little crazy. On the way to the staging area my mirror broke of due to vibrations. the stock KTM mirror just snapped.

I hauled ass upto the top of 4 peaks and waited for 60 minutes and no one showed up. I then decided to head back and find them.

See I still had a licence plate when I was waiting.

This is the view I had as I was waiting.

At the top of this trail I snapped this pic. As you cant see the plate magicly vanished. This was only 2 miles later.

As I was going down 4 peaks the local officers saw me speed by with no plate. They then invited their friend the sheriff. He complained about my missing licence plate, mirror, and not having a OHV sticker on my missing plate. Paul instantly started taking blows at them till they let me go. Luckyly i didnt get any Arizona awards. He did check to make sure I didnt steal it though. I was hungry and wanted to get the hell out there so I accidently ran a stop sign and didnt use my turn signal as I was leaving.

Thanks Paul for the mirror. I didnt have to worry about the LOEs as much after that.

Cherry Creek road (FR 203) from Roosevelt lake to the top of 288 was EPIC!!! Loren displayed his skills as he tackled that road 2 up. That man is a beast. I destroyed my brush guard and clutch lever thanks to a massive boulder that showed me who was boss. Hopefully I can find some brave souls that would be willing to join me up Cherry creek road again. I got a nice and warm welcome into young from a doe and buck. They decided it would be great to run across the road and cause me to lock up my brakes and almost have a heart attack.

Thank you everyone that took a part of this EPIC adventure. I cant wait for next time.

I made a plastic backing for mine. kind of like a cut out of a cutting board, and siliconed them together and then bolted them to the bike. haven't lost the plate since.

and make your pics smaller next time!

I put an old plate under my plate on the quad (no rear support). Believe they are also stuck together with silicone.
My XR4 has a support for the plate.

Happy birthday Yosemite! 123 years old. One of the few things we as Americans can truly celebrate is our National Parks. We were after all the first nation to have national parks. Now because we have two political parties that work for industries and not our people, they are all closed. The Forest Service employees that go to our universities for 6 years or more and earn a Masters degree just for the privilege of having a thankless job scrubbing toilets and picking up your trash as miserable low end GS wages are on temporary furlough until our congress decides which industry will be awarded the largest lump of our cash. Chin up we still have more libraries than India. I guess we get to keep our first world status for now...
