Saturday

I ride a ktm 530 for the more stressful rides, and an 1150gs for the big bike rides. I am equally inept at both...

We have 2 potential routes, one easier than the other. What kind of bike are you going to be riding?

Valentines Day ride

I'm going to do a ride this Friday. I am flexible on the location and plan on leaving around nine and being home anytime before four. If anyone is interested let me know.

Not really sure where on advrider to put this question, so I'll just pollute this particular thread.

I went out boot shopping last night, to the CycleGear in Mesa. Looking for an ADV/MX style boot.

I wasn't really impressed with the on-floor selection compared to CycleGear's online selection. I only had a handful of choices within my pricepoint (I would prefer to stick under $200 for this).

The handful of boots I tried on, really felt terrible. Very flat-footed, no arch support at all.

Perhaps my goals are out of line? My intention is to actually be able to walk in whatever I buy, so that when I get to a destination I can wear those boots rather than swapping out to some other shoes.

What should I be looking for in a motorcycle boot like this?

I got the Sidi Adventure Gortex....definitely not in your price point....
I scored them @$340 on Ebay from germany (biker-land_de)

Super comfy right out of the box and had the protection & water proofness I wanted....there are two things I don't limit by budget, helmets & boots.
I'm sure others will chime in with more affordable options.

+1

Good boots have saved me from injury many times. I'm a fan of the Sidi products mostly because they fit me.

Screwy Louis has a decent selection. A boot with adequate off-road protection and comfortable to walk around in is a tough combination. I can walk miles in mine but they are hot and heavy. (And look silly with short pants)

Any other good stores in town to go in an try on half a dozen different types of boots? I'm not comfortable ordering something that is fit-dependent, online and uninspected prior to purchase.

Craigs list. I got a new set of OXTAR TCX that retail at 430 for 200 bucks. The guy was a sponsored rider, but broke his knee, so he was clearing out his stock.

Ride to people's house try on a pair if they're your size have a beverage and meet a member. If you're size 10.5 and want to try/look at the Gaerne, feel free to ride down and check them out.

+1 on the balance. I have a pair. Walking in town is very comfortable, hiking is easy too.

I have a pair of alpine stars tech 3 that I prefer for trail riding since they are stiffer. I've hike up to a mile in them and bring extra shoes if I'm going to hike more than that.

The helmet center has a nice selection of quality boots for various purposes.

Boots

I have the Alpine Stars Scout, It's water proof comfortable to walk in. About $250 Not a nice as the Sidi's. That will be my next boot. I got the Scouts to see if I would be comfortable in an off road type boot. Now I won't wear anything else. My advise would be go ahead and get the Sidi's.
