Great Long Day

My thanks to everyone for another great ride. I definitely need to go back to the Air and space museum something again. A few hours is not enough time to do it justice.

Later
Bill

Thanks guys...that was a great 300 miles to not see the museum
Turns out I didn't plan well and had to bail in Tuscon...
Wade and I did our best to mix it up after the Grant avenue torture
Some strong cross winds today for sure
I think our route went something like this:
Florence Kelvin HWY -> Winkelman->77 South->76(50 miles Dirt)/Reddington Rd/San Pedro Rd/Reddington Rd.

No motor vehicles on the Arizona Trail

Start of 50 miles of dirt road....it was great

Maybe next time less sight seeing and I'll have a chance to spend time at the Museum....

Went for a ride yesterday to the top of Mt.Ord. Awesome ride up and took a different way down. One of my favorite trails!

Two 990's and a brand new 1000 VStrom

Then we went over to Punkin Center and back NF-609 to 288.
This was an awesome trail with alot of water bars to jump. Saw some dear and had a blast!

Just north of Lake Roosevelt

That "other way down" is a fun little route, isn't it? Did you stop at the mine?

On the route where you say "we should camp here" is that where that little cabin is next to the meadow?

Anyone heard from wantoridemoar? I'm curious to know how his long trip to the GC turned out.

Turned out good!

Never been there before, went solo.

Left at 7:15AM, got to Flagstaff about 9:30. I ran into really strong headwinds up I-17, and between that and the climb I only averaged about 36mpg on the way up there! The 800XC is still really new to me, and when I passed Munds Park and saw that Flag was still 20 miles ahead, I also noticed my fuel light was on. I toggled over to estimated miles til empty, and saw 18. So my but puckered a little bit until I hit the fuel stop at Kachina Village, but I ended up putting 4.3 gallons into the 5 gallon tank, so evidently there's another half gallon or more that the bike will lie to me about.

It was 38 degrees in Flag, so I stopped off on the Denny's at US 180 just shy of downtown and warmed up with some coffee and breakfast. Wish I went another couple miles down 180 and went to one of the local places, but I was freezing and hit the first breakfast place I saw. I let it warm up for an hour, into the 40's, then headed on up 180 to its junction with 64.

At the park entrance, I bought the $80 annual pass for all parks, so I'm set for my ride this summer up to Yellowstone and Zion/Bryce/Arches/etc.

Ogled the canyon for a bit at Yavapai and Mather points, then rode 64 east and stopped at Moran, Lipan and Watchtower points. Enjoyed 64 quite a bit, left the park and met up with US 89 and headed back south. Back home by 630 PM. The way back down, I averaged 50-ish MPG.

The drop into Black Canyon City was very welcome. Instant 20 degree temperature boost.

I haven't uploaded any of my pics to Photobucket yet, and none of 'em are of my bike anyways.

I may head back up again for a full weekend, in April. My riding buddy that bailed on me wants to go, just needs to fix his fork seals. I'll have a dogsitter in April so I can make it an overnighter.

Excellent. I always fear the worst when riders are amped up about a ride and don't post about it immediately after. Glad it turned out well. You'll definitely enjoy the ride a lot more on an over-niter.

The tracks are home on my laptop but I'm guessing around 30 miles or so.
