Jay,

If I had the extra vacation time I would love to make it a extended trip but I don't have any time I can use.

Paul,

I agree with ride 1 and option A, Please let us know the route you have in mind when you can.

Bill

"Back roads" = paved?

If 1A is something I can pull off on my street bike, I'd rather take that instead of my XR.

But if we're going to take roads that warrant dual-sport/enduro bikes then I'd take that. Just be good to know whichever it is.

I prefer a 1-day ride that hits some terrain that makes the XR a better choice over a street bike. Willing to camp out, just have to find a dogsitter. Prefer not to.

Have the aftermarket seat pad on the XR, as well as the Trailtech speedometer. Some "interesting" installation issues on the speedometer, but nothing that won't make for good stories and still leave the bike operational.

Okay all, here is what i am planning. I hope this will work for everyone.

Meet at 0800 Saturday April 6th at Cindy's Cafe http://cindysazcafe.com/
NE corner of Center and McKellips in Mesa (Set back in the strip mall)

After a bite to eat we will ride Highway 87 all the way to Winslow, AZ
In Winslow we will jump on I-40 for 6 miles and take the Leupp exit onto Highway 99 turning at Leupp road and then north on Indian route 6910.
Indian route 6910 merges with Indian Route 70 and takes us right to Grand Falls. The dirt road portion is right at 9 miles and it is completely graded. I think a GoldWing would not be a big challenge right up to the parking area. For those that are riding big bikes and street bikes I will find a spot to park and we will walk about 1/4 mile to see the falls. The higher clearance bikes will be okay but there is some deep sand and ruts in the parking/ramada area that has a potential to get nasty.

I am anticipating making stops in Payson, Long Valley, and Winslow at the least. I am old and need to pee alot. Those of you that would like to meet along the way please PM me or Bill and so we can set a meeting place. keep in mind I ride slow. I am guessing we are looking at a 5 hour+ ride there.

The ride home:
I am planning on Having dinner in Flagstaff then taking Lake Mary road home and then Highway 87 the rest of the way. Even if we only spend an hour or so at the falls I won't be home until about 9 or 10pm. You are all welcome to ride home with me but I am sure some will need to hit the Interstate and do 75mph all the way home.

For those of you that must ride 20mph over the speed limit you will be bored to tears riding with us. For those of you that like to go for a nice ride and look at the scenery you will have a good day.

Just don't get caught on lake Mary road after dark. The elk like to have conferences on the road at that time!

+many to this. After dark you will see elk in the road between Flag and Payson. Todd and I got caught between the Rim and Payson after dark last year. We saw two herds standing in the road. Being caught between them and the 70 mph cages makes for an exciting evening.

Have a great ride.

I'll be doing part of the Mobius trip so I'm out. But you guys have fun.

Yesterday I took a buddy of mine through Bulldog Canyon. If you guys are thinning of trying it, maybe these pictures can provide the motivation needed.

Directions to the West gate. Get your permit here.

AZredline and I did it about a month ago and had a blast. So I took my buddy out there for an early morning stint. Found a new way to get to trail #12 but we've got to try it with the little bikes because it gets brutal. Read more here.
