Hood River, OR. Rides out the backdoor

This is my start at posting some of the rides we do right out of our garage. No truck or trailer, just get on the bikes and ride! Why I have waited to try this on what looks to be the last nice fall day before six days of rain and snow down to 3000' is beyond me. And then again it might be just the reason, I wanted to find a route from one canyon to the next one to the south. With rain in the forcast this might be the last time before snow on the ridges and mud everywhere to the west of Hood River.

This is looking East from the top end of Green Point Canyon

Ottertail Lake and some great fall colors.

Mt Hood to the south

Mt Adams to the North in Washington

Found a very well hidden ridgeline trail (on a very old road) that was lots of fun!

Which ended up on some very beautiful old pine needle covered road. Just a note to go along with this photo, when I find road like this anymore I like to practice to the best of my ability "No trace biking" so that it looks like this for the next rider!

After about a 2000' descent, back to good old USFS single lane road one canyon to the south and a new route with more to come!

Hood River Rides

Craig McCurdy, that was a great ride with pictures.

Too bad we didn't see this last week... My two friends camped a week up on Surveyors ridge and got home yesterday.

For a nice two hour ride from town there is always the road up to Cloud Cap at 6000' on the north side of Mt Hood. Great views and camping on hot summer days! It will soon be under 6 to 10' of snow for the winter and some great skiing instead.

Sunday afternoon turned out to be nice so a friend and I got out and put a few miles on.
If you want to find this spot in the photo below!
45deg 35.919' N

We ended up getting between 6 to 8 miles of very fun single track!

Also some great fall colors

Mt Adams to the north in WA.

View of the Columbia River

And back down into the Hood River Valley.

Rain to the West dry to the East

So we got a nice day, just one thing to do about that. Go for a ride! With rain to the west we headed for the mountains to the east of Hood River. Last night we had a weather front go though with some wind so right off the start we found a few trees.

Guess what was left at home, yup, saw! Lucky for us we only had a couple of them to work around.

Just North of the Ketchum Ranch

The shot below is looking south into Mosier Creek canyon which we rode around to the south at about the skyline.

We worked our way back to the west and the Hood River Valley.

And 76 miles later back to 5 miles of blacktop for our ride back to the house just before dark!

And the forecast for tomorrow, 80% chance of RAIN!!!

80% Chance of rain!

We could not help it, just had to get out in the woods. We did manage to get in some fun, rain and even a few snow flakes.

Mt Hood a couple of minutes before it disappeared in the clouds!

One more photo from up on Huskey Road

Hi Craig,
Here's another for you. The maiden voyage of my drz-400s up above the clearcut on Huskey Road one of those nice Fridays we had a few weeks ago. Give me a shout next time you guys go out. I've been going out solo, which is fun, but probably not too smart.
