After riding Freebridge Rd. and heading home we took the faster way home along the Columbia River gorge scenic highway.

Yes it is Eastside Rd. and I know who "Sinfield" is and he's hiding in Denver going to school. Or at least that's what he's telling his parents! Who still live there on Eastside Rd.

Yeah, as Craig said, I was born and raised in Hood River. Currently in Denver for grad school, but I was back in the valley this fall. Got a chance to hit up some of the trails around the eastside, as well as the Post Canyon/Kingsley network, and stuff around Bend and Eugene. I love Oregon riding, and I'm crossing my fingers that my last rotation next spring will put me back in either Portland or Bend.


...although CO isn't too shabby either

Back to the McDonald Ferry Rd. to take in the Oregon Trail. The stone is a marker for the trail at the top of the climb out of the John Day canyon.

She said "Okay, we only have a couple hours before the kids come home!" So I went and grabbed my motorcycle gear! So we got a little ride in, 27 miles and two hours of FUN...

Headed for the hill's

Got to the hill's, oh and buy the way dear "Watch that mud!"

Then went to the lake (Green Point lake)

Then headed south of a bit, lot's of snow still so you have to stay at the lower elevations. Mt Hood in the photo below.

Then across the West Fork of the Hood River and home before soccer, lacrosse and general kid pandemonium, buy 8:30pm it'll be time for a beer

Thought we would see how far we could make it up Lolo Pass on the west side of Mt Hood today.

Made it to 2600' and that was where even the 4X4's got stopped.



Headed back to the North and the Hood River valley.

A stop at the West fork of the Hood River, and then home!

Was just up there last week and by the looks of your photos the snow hasn't retreated a whole lot. Also rode up Lake Branch Rd. and was shocked at the amount of logging going on. I guess the good thing about the logging is that they fixed all the potholes in the road. Got to milepost 6.3 before I was turned back by snow. Not quite up to "Ambush Pass" as Kozmo calls it.

Also blown away by the condition of Lost Lake Rd. with the new water line work going on. Road condition will be tough on the riders in the Mt. Hood Classic this year.

Lake Branch and Green Point Road have both been set up for massive logging. I looked on the Mt. Hood Forest Website after riding up there, to see what is planned.
Fortunately, it appears they are just planning more thinning near the road, like they started 6-7 years ago, which should make the forest look better.
From what I could see online, no clear cuts were going to be visible from Lake Branch road. Clear Cuts appeared to be limited to the several spur roads they have rebuilt.

Funny. Forest Service is paying to de-commission many dozens of little spur go-nowhere old logging roads to the SouthEast of Badger Wilderness,
and here, the loggers are rebuilding every old spur rd around to access more logging.
Thank goodness they are not planning to touch the very tall old growth section on the Westernmost leg of Lake Branch

Green Point Rd is just plain closed for logging , so the trucks can drive as fast as they want.
I rode up green Point two months ago, to the snow just before the two short pavement stretches.
They (Hanel) had the hillside quarry just before the creek bridge completely torn up to mine for fresh gravel for the roads they were building.
They were re-making every little spur off that had ever been dug from logging the first time
