Metric? Whitworth? If it's an adjustable, it should be crossed with a hammer, similar to:

Such differentiation is not necessary. An adjustable wrench, known in certain circles as a Sasebo Socket Set, does not discriminate but will round off bolt head of any type, metric, SAE, Whitworth, whatever, sooner or later, and guarantee severely barked knuckles in reasonably short order; if of sufficient size a SSS makes a pretty darn good hammer, too.

Bluhduh Done Lurking....

Hey everyone...

Been a lurker on this site for a while. Saw this thread today and had to post.

I live in central Virginia (Charlottesville). Love riding...everyday, all year 'round...course you can get away with that pretty easily this far south.

I wouldn't claim any expertise about wrenching, but what I know I have figured out using the web, a manual, and old-fashioned trial-and-error...Never done an engine/tranny rebuild - furthest I've ever had to dig into the engine was removing the head.

Shoganai I am just down the road...give a holler next time you're wrenching...I quite good at garage lounging, drinking beer and giving uninformed opinions about how to fix things (just use a hammer...even if it doesn't fix it you'll feel better) .

Current bikes...
1980 Honda CB650C (will sell when I figure out how to get all four carbs to behave)
2003 Kawa Vulcan (hope to sell/trade for a small D/S - really want to get off the pavement soon)
2003 BMW F650CS (great commuter)

So....now that intros are over...

Anyone have any sage advice for total loss of power?

Backstory....lent kawa to my daughter...when I rode up to MA for a camping trip back to VA she had serious carb. issues (bike only sat for one-two weeks)

Managed to get it home, bogging and backfiring the whole damn way (probably not the best thing for it)

One fuel bowl (of the two carbs) had obviously bad gas (smelled awful) some grit in it, so obviously clogged carbs...easy right?

Right...I have taken the carbs off twice and soaked and cleaned...pretty certain all the jets and passages are very clean at this point - there was no varnish, just particulates in the fuel bowl...so I installed a fuel filter (can't believe stock doesn't have one). Replaced the now fouled and abused plugs - bike starts fine, idles smooth, but NO power!!! seriously, worse than a 25cc scooter. Vacuum leak? I checked the lines etc., but nothing obvious....any suggestions?

Love to hear from everyone - advice or rides!

cheers!

Viagra will help your "total loss of power", but only if you be a guy.

Your carbs may be a "CV" design (constant velocity), where a thin rubber diaphram is used to lift a slide to let in more air. A vacuum leak will prevent the slide from lifting, meaning no power, but it would idle fine.

Life has thrown me a few curveballs since I late posted here.
Suffice it to say that I have had little to no time to spend on this and other leisure time projects.

This is where I stand.

I now own wrenchingwenches.com, org, and net.
I have bought a vBulletin license and now have URLjet hosting wrenchingwenches.com

I have a lot worked out in my head and on paper.
I also have a nice logo designed with the help of NikonAndVstroms

Still plugging away at it,
Gwen

If so, I have a special mission for you.

PM me for details.

Wow, that really sucks. Did he even give you his demo? Why did you pay him before he delivered? In reading through your requirements, you have great ideas. But, a lot to deliver for $750. Almost too good to be true. But then, how could you know? I'm really sorry this happened to you.

True, I don't know anything about this stuff.

Derek Bok, the 25th President of Harvard said it best, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance”

Well, you own vBulletin and have a vBulletin hosting site that will install it for you. While you are saving your $ for a custom site, maybe you could get started with a little volunteer help from your ADV friends... If you get vBulletin installed and align your initial requirements to what the software gives you out of the box, pick one of the free themes, maybe you could get your site up and running at little to no cost. Later on after you have saved up some $, you could give it a makeover/upgrade to include the custom bits. Just an idea, anyway.
