.. mm.. shower.. food.. and relaxation over...
well, motojoe is sitting on the couch next to me. under a blanket or two. he drove most of the way home. and i have a computer in front of me, so i'm not tired yet .. * Once inside mexico the paved road quickly got fun in the mountains for a bit. ![]() * At dusk on the first day we rode by a motocross track with some guys practicing.. they jumped very high, and the scenery was awesome... ![]() * Day 2, leaving chihuahua city in the morning ![]() * we climbed in elevation most of the afternoon. started to see pine trees and such. heading into the mountains is awesome. ![]() ![]() ![]() * As afternoon turned to evening we lost the pavement.. ;-) ![]() ![]() ![]() video clips: http://ooki.halo.nu/~elektron/pics/2...6/mvi_4615.avi, http://ooki.halo.nu/~elektron/pics/2...6/mvi_4621.avi * Day 3, we took an awesome wrong turn to the town of urique. awesome switchbacks going down the mountain. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() video clips: http://ooki.halo.nu/~elektron/pics/2...6/mvi_4635.avi, http://ooki.halo.nu/~elektron/pics/2...6/mvi_4636.avi * Urique turned out to be a dead end. so we came back and stayed near the same towns we started at. ![]() ![]() * Day 4, following road logs backwards turned out to be be pretty hard.. but we headed toward the direct route to batopilas: ![]() video clip: http://ooki.halo.nu/~elektron/pics/2...6/mvi_4646.avi * The el fuerte river was rumored to be between waist and armpit deep. we insteand headed the long way around to choix, sinaloa. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() video clips: http://ooki.halo.nu/~elektron/pics/2...6/mvi_4654.avi, http://ooki.halo.nu/~elektron/pics/2...6/mvi_4655.avi ![]() * that night we found a hotel and got cleaned up. came back ouside and motojoe's drz was dead. clunk clunk it said. :-( * Day 5, in the morning it was off to the loreto train station ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() * They refused o load our cargo at this station, saying we had to be at the further south station (el fuerte). luckily we hitched a rde in the back of a rail pickup that happened to be headed to the station right after the train left. ![]() ![]() * spent the rest of the afternoon in el fuerte * Day 6, in the morning went to the train station early ![]() * Motojoe had to help the cargo guys shuffle cargo to get then to accept the bikes.. at first they told it was too full.. after a very hectic lifting two drzs into the freight car we were on the train for a good 15 hours ![]() ![]() ![]() * Day 7 (merry christmas!!) the train arrived at chihuahua, chihuahua around 5 am. motojoe and myself ran back to unload the bikes and the cargo guy locked up the car told us to wait till 6am and then 7am. a few hours later one of the guards told us to come back tomorrow. tempers ran high there was a sense of panic. we had not even seen the bikes siince we loaded them in el fuerte. we decided to split up. joe headed north for his pickup via bus and i staked out the train station. a few hours later i woke up and talked to some of the security guards. I found one guy, juan, who would listen to me, and was interested, because he was also a motorcyclist. he was a cool guy that has owned many a motorcycle over the years. also spent some in in the states, and knew a little english. that mostly covered the gap in my spainish. :-) i passed out for a while, and maybe around 1pm or so, my friend, juan, came and woke me up sayng the cargo guy was here and i should go get the bikes. in a half-dazzed stupor i ran to the back of the train station. sure enough there was a guy with the door open, carying a box. at this point i could see the bikes in the car. and immediatly woke up and felt relieved. this guy didn't even come to get me or anything. :-( at this point it didn't even matter. i told the guy i was taking both the motorcycles off the train now, and dropped the whole issue. i guess no reason to get mad, just gives me more grey hairs. :-/ with the bikes off the car, and parked in the lot guarded by my friend juan, i was incredibly relieved and serene. i called home (standard procedure) to report current status.. no word at all from joe. pushed my bike to the nearest PemEx and viola!! another phone card, some caffine, and some suger. did some wheelies in the virtually empty streets of south chiuahuah.. eventually joe got back with the pickup and we came back. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ***** i've heard of a wise man that said, "The adventure begins where your plans fall though." of course, this also the man that when you ask, "you think we should ride ****** pics for thought ... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() * And to close.. the advrider parking job..
