Some fantastic pictures and stories being posted! Thanks to everyone who took the time to share.

Some friends and I are planning to go explore the BRT over a long weekend in two weeks. We will be trailering up from Charlotte Thursday afternoon, camping out, riding as much as possible, then driving back Sunday afternoon.

Hoping to get a little advice. We are planning to just camp in 1 spot for the whole weekend. We'd like to hit as much singletrack and challenging trail as possible (sounds like there is no shortage ), and we'd like to avoid duplicating a ride or doubling back if we can.

Can anyone recommend a good location to base out of? Originally I was thinking of just heading to Damascus, since it's closest to us - but it's also way down at the end of the trails.

If we drive about 85 miles further, we can camp out around Buchanan and maybe have a bit more in terms of options?

But for those who have been there - would that be worth the extra driving?

Our group consists of a couple XR650L's, a couple DRZ's, and my XL350R.

Thanks in advance! Your replies WILL be rewarded with a kick ass ride report

Some friends and I...

NitroRoo,

I frequently trailer my bike up to southwest VA from central NC, so I've got a little experience with it.

If it were me, I'd base out of a campground in Austinville or Ivanhoe. It will take you a good 2.5-3 hours to get there. I wouldn't plan to ride the BRT on Thursday night. Maybe just putz around in the woods and get warmed up and find some good dinner.

I'd wake up early Friday, and head via Error Cooled's route to Damascus. That alone should take you 3-4 hours (or at least until lunch.) Eat lunch in Damascus, and then head up the Iron Mountain trail. Unless you guys are fast, light, and otherwise great riders, it will probably take you the rest of the afternoon into the evening to make it back to Ivanhoe or Austinville.

Saturday morning, I'd rejoin the BRT where you left off (should be a few miles from your camp) and then head up the trail as far as a I could until a late lunch. Then turn around and head back via some back roads to camp.

Just my two cents. I know that Buchanan is also a beautiful area that offers a lot of riding & camping options as well. I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you choose.

Hey Cheapest . We had a fun trip for sure, definitely worth getting the DRZ trail ready. I am SO GLAD I got rid of my street tires and put on some 50-50 tires, much better.

I wouldn't without your consent, but am curious as to the reason why. I would still like the files if possible.

The trail maps.

Thank you David! I received the files. Soon as I get to my main computer I'll get to work on loading them. I'm looking forward to this! First on the DRZ then the GS.

Wouldn't a "torrent file" be a sharing info about the track with others that have the track and not actually be sharing the track. Anyway that's the way I understand a "torrent file" . But isn't that what we have here on this thread? So I don't see the need for a "torrent file" . But I'm technologically challenged anyway.

It would just be an easy way of distributing it I thought would be helpful.
