Cat CRAP

Canoe, Ride And Play Hold my paddle, Watch this! HBN

This is the Mid Atlantic Canoe, Kayak and whitewater thread.

If you want to plan a float trip, this is the place!

Cat Herder River Float July ???

Open to all that would like to participate

Edit: July XXXX is the date and somewhere on the Shenandoah between Morgan Ford Landing (route 624) and route 9 bridge (WV) east of Charles Town.

This is a Bring your own boat float.

Camping will be very near the route 9 bridge. We can set up camp and and pick from about 5 or 6 different floats.

The VA floats are explained here... http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing...1&section=maps

route 7 to route 9 is a 12 mile WV float.

I think this is more what you are looking for.

They have a two day trip(24 miles) that includes camping halfway down the river, shuttles from the campground to the put in and back to the campground at the end of the trip. Not a bad deal...
If you get there on Friday you can snag the better spots in the campground. Some weekends the campgrouind gets pretty crowded but you can also take your gear in the canoe and camp on National forest land, first come, first gets the best spots, if you want a little more sloitude, but I would use the campground first timne out till you figure it all out.

Eagles Nest Outfitters can get us there and back by shuttle with their place to park. They are on 55 this side of Petersburg.

I have two yaks with dust on them.......http://www.eaglesnestoutfitters.com/kayaks.html

I've been wanting to do that overnight trip for some time now but haven't gotten around to it. I believe a new state record cat fish was caught on that section.

Also, there is some surfing if anyone brings a kayak.

We could do a short Friday float and a longer one ending at or close to the camp site on Saturday. Boats aren't a problem and I have a trailer that would haul 2 or 3 canoes. A few trucks would work for the yaks.

Now the scary part...........Where and when

There is not enough water right now though. I think 2.5' on this gauge...

http://waterdata.usgs.gov/wv/nwis/uv...65,00060,62614

is bare minimum. Anything lower and you'll be dragging the boat a lot.

HBN, you can take my 111....please.....can you swim?

Make it a fall ride, [float].

I have a couple of good day runs on North Fork Shenandoah from Strasburg to Strasburg (3 to 4hrs) or Cedar Creek to Rt 11, Strasburg [3-4hrs]. In and out is minutes away for both. Boat or tube.......Camping can be at Cedar Creek Battlefield. http://www.hikercentral.com/campgrounds/112380.html

I have a few others up my sleeve....

I got up at O dark thirty this morning to run down to St. Mary's lake and get a line wet. The top water bass bite was non existent. I still had a half cup of coffee left, so I tied on a couple of chartreuse Bandit 200's and started a slow troll around the perimeter of the lake. Sure enough I got into some large crappie 11-12 inches. The day is looking better.

After I thought I had figured out were the crappie were hold up, I started pitching a small chartreuse jig hoping to pick up a few more on ultra light tackle. Strike out.

I had been on the lake a few hours and the temp was rising so I thought I would just pack it in when I notice a lager blow down tree in the lake. I grab another rod and pitched a tube bait along side and bam; I pulled out a 3lb, 17 inch bass. It's now 0800 and the lake is starting to get crowded with all the late comers, so I rolled it up and headed for the dock. Not a great day but I was in my happy place

Next time I'll remember the camera.....
