We had a great turn out for this evenings ride, ten riders showed up and eight did the ride. I ended up riding 111.7 miles in four hours and 24 minutes. I found at least one mistake in the directions I posted, after the gas stop at Enck's Sunoco in Loysville, instead of a right turn on PA Rt. 850 E. (Shermans Valley Rd.), it should be a left turn.

Jeff

A great ride

We had a great ride last evening- perfect weather and even had TowPro present to see us off. His journey back to full recovery is progressing ( he rode his big GS in to see us off) and hopefully will be joining us in the near future to do the adventure ride. These photos are a ride into Tuscarora State Forest tonight, but since we usually ride in Michaux - hopefully they can post in this forum.

While Dennys southern adventure continues for another week, Rich and I will again be leading this Thursday evenings (September 4th) dual sport ride, since we had such a great turn out last week in Ship, lets try it again, same place; Rich's office at 10000 Molly Pitcher Highway/U.S. Route 11 south of Ship, same time; 5:00 P.M..

If you don't already know, the East Coast Enduro Association (ECEA/South Penn Enduro Riders (SPER) annual Michaux enduro will take place the morning of Sunday September 7th, beginning at the Michaux Big Flats ATV & Snowmobile parking lot, several roads have been posted as being closed while the event is in progress.

Thursday evening adventure ride

It was a beautiful night for a motorcycle ride and attendance was good (7). Denny is still skiing in South America so Jeff lead on a fantastic ride. I'll attch some pictures. The sunrise pictures of Chambersburg Reservoir were taken at sunrise this morning (I was awake even though I had the day off). The picture of the brown board - read the grafitti - pay attention to the largest white letters - it was a found scene at an observation platform at the Chambersburg Reservoir - so it IS a photo from Michaux State Forest. Some things never change!! I have to figure out how to take some moving photos - I have my doubts that I will be able to do so - Jeff is an advanced rider and he drives too fast!!http://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/naughty.gifhttp://d26ya5yqg8yyvs.cloudfront.net/naughty.gif

Thursday evening Adventure Ride

We had 4 riders for a most enjoyable adventure ride last evening, Denny -who just returned from his South American ski vacation, Jeff , Landon and myself.
Here are a few pictures - including the Pavilion from Mount Alto State Park (the oldest PA state Park still in existence) and the chapel from the Penn State Mont Alto campus. Both the Mount Alto State park and Penn State AMount Alto border or are within the Michauz State Forest.

Taking off

chapel at Penn State Mount Alto

Pavilion at Mount Alto State Park

Overlook near Mount Alto - I wonder how many of this year's freshman class were conceived here?

This is the interior of the pavilion at Mount Alto State Park. I understand that this is a unique pavilion that is not duplicated anywhere else.

I hope that I will be able to post on next week's ride- I hope everyone has a good week of riding - it's beautiful in South central PA now!!!

Proud and happy that you checked us out, Colonel. Sir, you exemplify the best of the ADV Rider experience, and I am in your debt.

Cannonshot has materially effected my life in 2 ways. He made the GPS file we used and told the story of his Continental Divide ride. And he was instrumental in my finding the ship my Father was on in WWII.
His Cannon Tracks and ride reports are inspiring to say the least.

Some Michaux Photos

I wanted to take my camera for a ride today so I thought I would post some historical photos of the iron furnaces and a couple of nature photos of Tumbling Run - which had the lowest water levels that I can remember. Also it was cold this morning so the rattlesnakes were going to be lethargic - so happily I had no snake encounters.

Stream crossing

The stream is clear - the green color is from the foliage reflection.

This is the Caledonia Iron ore furnace that was used to smelt iron ore into iron

The sign on the Caledonia Furnace

The furnace at Pine Grove Furnace Park

Tumbling Run Stream - the lowest that I have ever seen it

Only tiny waterfalls today

I wanted to get a picture of a Totem Pole - but I forgot to get the picture. If I have time this week I will try to post some pictures of Huckleberry Land. I would assume that this could be the first pictures of Huckleberry Land ever viewed on the web. Stay tuned!!

It's my pleasure

I'm finally starting to learn to use a camera that I bought over a year ago. I'm really dumb on learning the menus.
