At my age I'm having a little trouble getting the whole "Vintage Look" thing.

Back in the day, al of the riders I know were buying and using thebest bikes and equipment that we could afford and the old pudding bowls had just been replaced by the revolutionary fiberglass 3/4 skid lids and guess what? Fatalities went down!

Now-days we have access to fabulous helmets for peanuts and guys are choosing to wear PBs and unarmored riding outfits, because they fit the new-style of cafe bikes, that don't much resemble vintage cafe racers anyway. Do people who sail in antique sailboats use antique safety gear? No.

Hey... If it floats your boat, go ahead but when I ride my throughly vintage bike, I wear the best gear that I can afford, including a FF Helmet. By the way... Ever seen a rider who's had his face ripped off in a crash? One good look at that will cure a lot of things!

Half helmets are for riders with half a brain and riders who refuse to wear helmets are completely brainless or soon will be. Of course YMMV, it's a free country, we still have a few rights, etc. (( Yeah man... It's about bein free! We wanta get high when we wanta to get high! Go where we want to go! We wanta be free and the man can't stop us!))

What a life!

Well, I expected all those responses when I clicked on this thread, and I wasn't disappointed.
I have both the Davida PB,and the Jet. I like them both, but find myself wearing the Jet more.

Reminds me of the same type of individuals that enjoy NHRA drag racing ................ the Wal-Mart nation.

they last for decades in england, wonder what the problem could be?

Oh yeah, it rains there all the time.... no sun!

I have a Davida Speedster. Nice compromise. Not nearly as bulbous or expensive as the Jet. Way better than the cork lined pudding bowl.

Since when? I haven't received any literature in the mail or at the track.

I like the Davidas. I'd probably buy one if I had an old Italian single.

Gotta agree with mymindsok on this one.
Summer of 09 I stuffed my Monolever bike into the back of a minivan facefirst at about 25 mph.
I had on my HJC fullface helmet. I still have a face.
It never was pretty, but I still have it and I didn't have to spend any time in the hospital fixing it.
I left a real nice impression of the front of my helmet in the rear hatch of the minivan, much to ire of the driver.
If I had on my pudding bowl, I would probably have left my lower jawbone in the hatch instead.
I don't give a fuck about ME looking vintage, (I'm 52, I know how old I am), I let the bike say vintage.
One less poseur, one pretty old face, happily giving mustache rides into the next decade.

i've got a JET and love it, pure quality in every respect. the JETs do have the very latest European Safety Standard ECE R22-05 by the way.

I have been riding since 1968. I never saw anyone die or be hure badly BECAUSE they were ONLY wearing a half helmet....never. In fact, many didn't like full face helmets when Bell came out with the Star for flattrack racing, and NO ONE wore one for MX in the 70s. I wore the typical half helmet, a Bell Magnum 500 with a flat shield racing flattrack in the 70s and never hurt me bean in a pile up. I did change to a Bell Start (only because I got one extreemely cheap) when I bought my TM125 Screwzuki. It made me feel cool but was HOT and had shitty visibility for Motocross racing and off roading. I still wore it in the winters when street riding though for obvious reasons.

Recently I bought a black half helmet which IS DOT and Snell at walmart. For a whopping 40 bucks, and it is OK. I did so because the full face super zoot race helmet I have looks silly on the R60/5. I did notice three major things after going back to a half helmet, first, I can see so much better, I can hear a lot better, and it is way way way cooler in the summer. I don't feel more unsafe with it on either like I thought I would.

I plan on the purchase of a Davida in the future. That is, if they fit. I like the old school looks!

I went by the measurement chart on the David site, picked a medium. And it fits perfectly. Amazingly comfortable. I also received some added adhesive foam strips for fine tuning the fit behind the leather liner. Also..the top webbing is adjustable via a tie cord so you can tailor it to fit.

My wife laughed at it but the guys on the vintage breakfast ride thought it just looked the part.

I for one don't live my life in constant fear of dieing so I'm not afraid to do what I want.
