MapSource or nay other software to upload maps

I just bought a 60cx and want to upload maps of Chile and Argentina. Do I need mapsource? If so, can I download it for free? If not, can I use any other freeware to load maps into my gps?

Thanks...

You will need mapsource or base camp to download maps and I have never been able to download it for free since you have to have a "key" to unlock it .I also have a 60csx and had to buy the mapsource for the key. Maybe someone with far greater experience will chime in as far as free downloads.

As for MapSource have a look here:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294492

As for the maps, depends on the maps. They need to be Garmin compatible.

Most of the info you are seeking can be found in the stickies at the top of the "Layin' down tracks" page.

After you get MapSource installed, you can get your country maps here.

Mapsource-Free Maps

I just picked up a 60csx and it shipped with a MapSource disk. The trick is to get MapSource to see nonGarmin maps. If you go here, there is a good tutorial on how to do it with open source software. www.gpsfiledeopt.com

It took me a couple of hours of monkeying around with it, but I was able to get a good routable base map and a good 25k topo map for free.

The stickies have more detail and other sources as well, but this site was a good start.

If yours did not ship with mapsource, it is still possible to bypass and load the file straight into your GPS. Set it as a mass storage device and you can drop a compatibile file in there.

The trick is getting your microsd card formatted right so it can see the map and know its a map. Here is a pretty good explanation of how to go about that: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/O..._onto_your_GPS

I figured this out before I figured out how to get MapSource to load the files.

I got the windows error worked out. I have managed to get non garmin maps on the mapsource software and they look great. Free downloads for Chile.

I still haven't received my C60. I'll let you know when I get it from Amazon.
