I think that TahoeACR and Cyborg are the first with SD cams in their 990ADV, Flanny is successfully running SD cams in his 950ADV (with FCR-MX carbs). BillyD did a degree/measure of the 990 ADV cams prior to dropping in a set of 950 ADV cams. They are REALLY mellow. The SuperDuke cams have more lift, duration and I think a little more overlap in comparison to the early 990 ADV cams. If I recall correctly the SD cams are a smidge hotter than the 950 ADV cams. The SD cams are a direct drop in fit in both the 07-08 990 and the 03-06 950. I don't know if the 09+ 990 is different in the head/cam area or if they already have a different/hotter profile.

With that said, has anyone thought about laying the 2010 Superduke tune onto a 990 ADV ECU? The reason I ask is there seem to be a few reports of SD tunes being glitch/hitch free. Perhaps a few table copies would be all that is needed? To be quite honest, I'm guessing on what all is involved!

Hey Dotbond, your bike has the Superduke cams!! The 2010 990R you have has new heads & cams from the superduke as far as I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Ok, I feel llike an eedjit.

Read the pdf that comes with the software and thought that was the extent of the docs. Turns out, as often happens, that I wasn't even close.

There's an online user guide:

http://www.tomhamburg.net/TuneECU_En/index.html

That covers a lot of what I was missing....

Duh. Again.

Hey SPSDUC you're from the same town as me, we should go for a ride sometime.

Yes, those rumours that i started are true. Now, back to the advertised program.

Interesting idea about trying the SD map? Maybe they are the same?? Or not?

Well, the PN for the heads and cams on the 2010 SM T and SM R are the same as the 990R and 990A. The cams are the same as the 2007 SD across the models mentioned. I don't see a fiche for the later SD models.

I did do a graphical map compare and one thing that stood out for me is the ignition advance settings - I1 and I2. There is a dip then a spike on the 990R stock map. It starts about 4.5% throttle, spikes at 8% and gradually tapers downward. That seems very inappropriate to me, but I'm not a FI mapping guru.

Any expert thoughts on this?

Edit: Are those suckers backing out advance to meet emission standards?

07,bone stock except for the de-catted mufflers and changing the F-L switch to the numbers Spark01 posted.

It consistently gets 40-42 mpg,all the sensors seem to be reading correctly and runs well except a slightly erratic idle that appears to be originating from cyl 1.Map sensor is fluctuating on cyl 1 and is pretty steady on 2.Also notice the back of the valves on cyl 1 are much cleaner than cyl 2.

Just wondering if there are any "known" issues causing this??

Your wright.. strange
But you also got a spike at 35% TPS at 8500-9500rpm??

But i can tell you this, i rode my friends stock '10 Adv A(with 990R mapping) past weekend and the power output on the ADv is smoother than on my SMT.
Ok mine SMT has akra's and akra mapping but that should not make that big difference??.. or does it.

Yep, saw that too, but it doesn't fall into the throttle position range that's bugging me...

We have a first! A 990 fueling is smoother than another bike!

Oh but i don't want to trade, i like it a bit agressive when i flip the throttle
But what i mean is that i don't know if this power output is useful offroad.

Only thing i want to improve is the mpg and eliminate the last bit of jerky on low rpm's.
95% of the time it runs ok, between 2500-4500rpm during slow traffic but sometimes it doesn't?.

Yes, that would be the very nice to achieve!

We may speak different languages, but motorcyclists around the world can understand each other just fine!

You could call it a bad personality trait. I just can't leave engines alone. Wanted more hp. $300 for the cams and 8 WHP. I think the stock Adventure(at least the older ones) has a boring powerband. Needed something to make it more fun to ride on the street. The cams have a nice hit at 6,500rpm. And lets all face it. At 4 or 5k in the dirt your having a hard time getting it to hook up so why not build a bunch more hp at 7k so your friends can't even get close or get roosted by small trees. In 08 the only difference between a SD and Adventure was the cams, exhaust and ECU map. Pretty easy to get SD power out of an Adv.

08 SD had the water passages in the heads cast smaller to slow the coolant down.

SDR has bigger intake valves and a factory ported head.

Also some mention about SD maps. Don't know how they look now but some years back when I put the SD cams in the SD ignition maps had 6-8 degrees less advance than the Adventure.
