Making an 350 SX-F an Enduro
How well would a 2011 SXF 350 make for an enduro? I'm come from a motocross background. Light, fast bikes are what I'm used to. But an enduro? Am I crazy? I live in Utah where I can easily street legalize an sxf so I can hop on the roads too. I want an adventure bike that prefers the dirt, but can tolerate some pavement.
The dilemma is I can get a 350 sxf for a lot cheaper than an exc, and I don't mind motocross bikes. Tell me I crazy if I am. Suggestions? |

I'm in the process of trail'n out my 350 SXF. I bought an enduro light kit and brake switch from Enduro Engineering. I did the light kit and a new rear fender the other day and it looks pretty sweet; planning to add the brake light switch tomo. I'm doing all this so I can legalize my ride for some trails and my annual Montana trip this summer....but I can easily switch it back out for the track.
I'll post a couple pics later today. meanwhile check out these links: http://slavensracing.com/about/jeffs...m-350-sxf-goat http://slavensracing.com/wp-content/..._April2011.pdf

Gearbox spacing is the main issue that you can't even correct, then you get into light flywheel, power delivery, lack of lights, 19" rear rim, suspension settings etc, etc. Depending on your budget a 2004+ 400+ EXC 4 stroke would be a much better choice.

Yep, it will never work. Better to give the bike to me so I can put a plate on it and park it next to my plated MXC.
![]() Seriously, if you aren't planning on droning down the highway just gear it up, add a dual sport kit and call it a day. But remember the cost of a good dual sport kit is not insignificant. Plus KTM may have stopped putting stators in the SX-F's that will handle a lighting kit. Better check on that first. My MXC was plug and play with the lights. But I don't know that current SX's are still like that.

Thanks for the great feedback. Gearing is my main worry, and you point that out. I need to find a good dual sport, but it seems impossible to find them. Where I live exc's are very rare, making them hard to buy and very expensive. That's what I want but I can't find one.

Broaden your search to include XCW's. You get a higher 5th & 6th, softer hit and a lighting coil.
With the closed course bikes the close ratio transmission and hard hit are a little hairy on the street. Even my little 200 wants to wheelie every shift. It isn't exactly a relaxing ride experience. But it is pretty entertaining on the trail. My MXC has limited usefulness as a true dual sport because of the gearing. But it is a riot on dusl sport rides with real offroad and limited highway.
