2009 BMW G450X fails to start with only 9 hrs. on the clock

I own a 2009 G450X with 300 miles and 9 hrs on the clock. I have owned it for two years. From day one it has been a very un-reliable bike. It has been plagued with the inability to start. It is random in nature from cold starts to hot starts. I have had to trailer it back home on many occasions from stores, gas stations etc. The battery holds up just fine for several minutes of attempted starting. The times it will start I will get a pop from the exhaust then nothing. Then I hit the start button again and again until one of the pops start the engine. If I hear a pop and continue to crank I get nothing until I stop and re-start. The bike has been to the dealer and was diagnosed with a bad injector. After three weeks of waiting on that repair it started a few times and now I'm back to the same old thing. I have replaced the injector relays from other recommendations with no success. Today I drained the gas and put ethanol-free gas in it to rules that out. Strange thing is that as it cranks I smell no un-spent gas smell from the exhaust. My next step is to possibly suspect valve are out of spec. Any ideas?

Also, I want to add that the bike has stalled on occasion and after several attempts, refires.

Complaint
- The engine stalls and cannot be restarted due to flat battery or
- the engine cannot be started: the starter turns without engaging and does not connect to the crankshaft

Cause
The threaded connection between the sprag clutch ring and the pole wheel may have come undone. This concerns the six M6x12 Allen screws, part number 07119906878, see no. "1" in the attached picture.
If the sprag clutch ring comes undone, the alternator coils are usually destroyed. This will explain the possibly discharged battery and the clear signs of copper swarf which may be found after removing the left-hand engine housing cover.

Measure
- Clean the crankcase
- Check the oil pumps
- Replace the oil filter and engine oil
- Replace damaged parts (i.e. usually the alternator)
- CAUTION: New tightening procedure for the threaded connection between the sprag clutch ring and the pole wheel
1. Initial torque to 3 Nm
2. Continue turning to 45° (+/- 10°). As a precaution, the instruction "45°" means only half a "right angle"... See the diagram in the attachment.
- CAUTION: Danger of damage when removing the pole wheel. Please check Service Information bulletin 13 / 2009

Engine turns over just fine and the battery seems to last for a very long time on attempts to start. When bike does run the battery seems to stay charged from the bike.

3 year old bike with 300 miles, my money is on a gunked up fuel pump, same as my 2 year old bike with 22 miles. Replace fuel pump with a (likely) 30mm pump from CAcycleWorks

always amazing to see threads like this - I have had zero problems with mine.

Best of luck getting things sorted.

Clean the ENTIRE fuel system. Then run some Seafoam or Techron through it. Ride the bike weekly. Don't let fuel sit in it.

Seems more than a few have had issues with the connector behind the headlight. Same exact symptoms.

Thanks for the link, a lot to study ...
Everybody speaks about cold start issues there, what if the bike has this failure only when the engine is hot ?
Did anyone experience this ?
