Glad to hear that you got it to work.

So when you opened the package, the combo was already set to something other than 0-0-0 ???

They come from the factory with the combo set at 0-0-0. If yours said something else, then somebody screwed up.

Well the mystery has been solved. My father bought me the lock for Christmas. He reguested that the combo be my birthday from the factory. He neglected to tell that. So there is the reason for the 0_0_0 preset mystery.

Picked one of these up. Pretty slick, and pretty handy. Sure beats sticking my helmet in a backpack when I go to leery places.

Great Product

We use these HelmetLoks as well. The level of security you get is relevant to what you're locking. Hang a briefcase with $500k in it from your handlebar and its likely an armed guard sitting on your bike might not stop a thief.

All in all it's a wonderful product. And the folks that import them stand behind them 100%.

New Helmetloks have a rubber coating to minimize scratches:

Helmetlok Fail

This seemed like as good solution for light security. Set combo and used it for a month or so successfully, until ...
out during errands, locked and unlocked a few times in the morning, last stop the lock wouldn't open. Tried rolling cylinders, tried nearby number combinations, nothing.
Fortunately, I was at a motorcycle shop. They played with it a bit, but finally I asked them to cut it. A pair of short-handled bolt cutters snipped it easily (it's aluminum, I think).

I suppose they'd send a replacement, but what's the point? I'd never trust it again. I can't take a chance on being in some remote place with my helmet unusable (and there's helmet law in California).

I wasn't thrilled with it anyway. Tough it get it around bars or rack and then reach a d-ring, it's just a little too small.

I've back to a more sustantial steel cable lock with key.
