My un-eductated guess says YES..... So it should be easier, but I want to make some verison 2 Updates, so it might be some time to complete. Always trying to make stuff stronger and better. It's a bad problem I have. But Oh so much fun when it works.

Cool, glad you liked it. That shot turned out great considering it was February in Wisconsin. Yes, February. There was about 2ft of snow on the ground and 30 degrees in the garage. No Hollywood photo shoot here. It was great to work with Matthew Fehrmann for the photo shoot. I'd never done that before, so much fun.

It's been a long time coming but here is next installment.

The last update was here. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...&postcount=178

A few months had passed from the time I reworked the Gear box. It's now 9-20-10 (almost 1 year ago now).

The next project was to build the chain cover/guard that will bolt to the gear box. This part is more than just a cover. It also houses a support bearing for one of the drive gears.

I start out with a plate of 6061 Alum plate.

Take some test cuts to confirm everything looks right. I don't have much of this stock around, so I need to take care not to scrap it out.

The inside is done first. Cutting a plate this thin can be tricky. You can build yourself into a headache if you didn't figure out a way to hold onto this part for cutting off the back side, or the side you will see.

The outer holes shown will be used to hold it to the fixture plate. They are Blind holes, so you won't see these on the finished part.

I added some smaller thread holes along the perimeter to bolt this to another fixture plate. This will give me a solid platform to clamp in the vise and the ability to make more covers in the future easier.

This is the fixture plate being machined to bolt the cover to.

Now the cover is bolted to the fixture plate from the bottom. This will be placed in the vice and clamped on. If you were to try and clamp on a thin plate like this with custom built vise jaws you would warp the part w/ uneven clamping pressure. This hold the part flat and secure. It takes more time up front, but is safe and will make a better part in the long run.

Back in the vise to cut the backside off.

All done. Ready to be cleaned up. I'll need to install the support bearing and seal, then ready to test fit it to the gear box housing.

I have an update for this thread. I was lucky enough to ride the AWD 950 on CJ's private test course this weekend and all I can say is WOW! It's truly awesome and I started saving for the upgrade today , any investors out there that want to get him what he needs for version 2.0 I did say it was awesome didn't I?

Oh ya and with this tire you can easily roost to 100 yards away...with both wheels

I’ve been trying to get my head around what it would be like to ride such a heavy bike with 2x2, what its road characteristics would be, how much more graceful climbing steep slippery rocky trails.
Amazing!!!!

On the road there is no difference, or so little difference I didn't feel it. It is after all AWD so the rear wheel has to slip before the front engages to do it's thing so at all other times, it's still as graceful as ever but when the rear tire brakes loose point the front wheel, throttle on and GO!!!!

I lust for the kit too, if/when such an outrageously cool and crazy product is offered. I plan to keep my '07 990S for quite awhile, after all it's barely broken-in at 33,000 miles, compared to CJ...

Is the front wheel direct drive, i.e. when under engine braking? If so how does that behave on the tar and off road?

No, it's not "LOCKED". Don't think of a rock crawler JEEP. The front wheel hub has a sprag bearing in it. Only locks up when the rear slips. You can see it for a split second in the above rock ledge video.

It's set at 60% currently, but next season I'm going to work on adjusting it closer to 100% and see what happens.

Engaged on TAR, feels normal as the rear is not slipping. When the rear slips, you get a tug on the bars as you pull forward.

It sounds odd, but really. It takes about 10 min to get the hang of it.

Here is a NEW video from last weekend.

Daniel came up to drop off the dirt wheels from the Leaf River Ride.

I’m glad he brought his riding gear…..

More testing this weekend.

Anyone interested it taking a test drive, email me.

Cheers, I understand now. How do you change the %, gear size change on primary? A fav for off-road 4x4 are 100/80 front. Also does the sprag instantly grip when rolling back?
If I win lotto tonight Id love to fly over for a try...truly amazing.

Craig, you sure aren't making it any easier for those of us lusting after that AWD kit...

Are those special Blue Bling fork & bar clamps I spotted?
