where to ride near San Mateo, California

Two pals and I are going to be in the San Mateo area next week. Would anyone like to recommend an interesting destination with a twisty road, awesome scenery and maybe a place to eat at the end ?
I'm borrowing an RT and will have pretty much all day to ride.

I would head South on Hwy 1 to Big Sur, have lunch and go on to just past Lucia. Take the Fergussen-Naciemento Road back over to Hwy 101 and head back North. Long loop, but spectacular along Hwy 1 from Carmel to Big Sur.

Take Hwy 84 up to Hwy 35 (Skyline Blvd.)
then Hwy 35 south to Hwy 9
then Hwy 9 south through Boulder Creek to Hwy 1
then Hwy 1 south as far as you care to go (it gets really good south of Monterey with plenty of side-trip opportunities)

If you run out of time/daylight you can return faster on the major highways (Hwy 1, 17, 101, or 280).

Enjoy!

From San Mateo take 92 west toward Half Moon Bay.
Turn S on 35 (Skyline). Stop at Alice's just to say you've been there.
Keep on going S on 35 to 9.
Take 9 west to 236. A left keeps you on 9... keep going straight for 236.
236 is about 1 1/2 lanes for much of the way and will take you through Big Basin Redwoods state park. Stop and enjoy.
Stay on 236 until Jamison Creek road. Take a right on Jamison Creek and follow it up to Empire Grade.
Turn South (left) on Empire Grade and go until the Felton Empire Road.
Take a left (east) turn onto Felton Empire back to highway 9.
Go north (left) on 9 until the town of Boulder Creek. Just past the down town is Bear Creek Rd. Turn right (east) on Bear Creek until it meets 35. Keep right until Summit Rd (also 35).
Continue E on Summit Rd to the Soquel San Jose Rd AKA the Old San Jose Rd.
Go south to Highway 1.

Now look at your watch and determine if you are going to go South for more riding or North up the coast back toward San Mateo.

The next day you can ride the North Bay. Have fun.

That's a good route.

This is pretty much what I was gonna suggest. That's the ride that I took yesterday. It will give you a good idea of the kind of roads that we have here

I need these directions for Thursday, I'll be at the show for sure. BMW is having a demo ride, I hope there is a big turn out.

had a preview of the show when I was in TX this weekend, it was the smallest show to date!

I would not waste the money, no KTM/Triumph/BMW, the only new thing I wanted to see was the yamaha. It was cool but that alone was not worth the $15.

they were offering the yamaha new dual sport for test rides however!
