XT 250 float height

Hi,

1st post here so I hope I have got it in the right spot.

Picked up a not running 1982 XT 250 SOHC the other day for cheap. The previous owner said he had it running but it wouldn't idle and now he could not get it going at all.

I found it had a blocked pilot jet and an air leak on the rubber carbie manifold where it bolts to the head. Fixed both and it now starts, runs and idles fairly well but still not 100% (no smoke or rattles so I think I have got a good old bike on my hands! ).

I rekon someone in its past has had a fiddle with the float height and the air mixture trying to sort its not idling issues so I am looking for the correct float height and a starting point for the air mixture screw.

Can anyone help me out with either of these? I did find another post on here saying the float should be 12.5mm but that is impossible on my carb as the floats hit the carb base before 12.5mm is reached.
Thanks
