Here are some images of the day:

A couple weeks ago this section was impassable and I forgot my saw... Today I brought one but to my good fortune some one else cleared it...

Years back they took over million dollars in gold out of this little hole... Doesn't sound like much until you factor in that todays prices would be 50 times that...

The dreaded flat... I hit a nugget and immediately lost all air on a steep downhill... A bit of a skill testing moment to get her stopped with a jelly front end..

The slime pump was the charm

Back together..

The entire loop was 550KM from home to home, I don't think I turned the GPS on until after Cambell River so likely the second half will be in the active track log...

Yellow it was. I never noticed any support vehicle - I thought support vehicles usually run behind you? Even though you weren't technically on a motorcycle - I waved at you. We were both stopped at the lights at the 'Russels Farm Market' intersection, but going in different directions.

Going to catch the first Ferry on Tuesday from PR to Comox and then head up to CR and in to Gold River and Tahsis. Never been there before so looking forward to some new scenery.
Then possibly on Wednesday from Nanaimo to lake Cowichan through the Nanaimo Lakes road, and from Cowichan over to Port Renfrew and Sooke, Victoria and back up to catch a ferry back.

That road has a gate and might not go through.

As was told to me by the gate guardian at the Cowichan end of things - you have to exit via the gated entrance that you entered into the area. They do not communicate between the various entrance checkpoints and therefore if you do not return, they become very concerned. Abuse of the privilege of going into these areas and not returning at the time you have estimated, will result in the loss of your back country privileges. Or so was told to me by this very anal individual manning the guard shack at Copper Canyon.

Once getting back from Tahsis to Gold River, you still have the option of taking the Muchalat Lake road through to Woss. Numerous backroads going back to CR from there. Woss has fuel, a general store, & a pub.

I did that route today on my old 95 Tiger with Ryder on a DR650. Only problem was a sinkhole in the middle of the road with a huge log on either side, & numerous ducking under fallen trees. This was on a side road north of Vernon Lake. Main road is usually much better.

You mean these logs:

At least when they set them there last fall they left room to skirt around the end...

Them's the logs ... sinkhole about 2m across & 3m+ deep. Looks like you did the reverse route we followed. Very mellow, saw NOT ONE vehicle between Gold River & Woss.
