Hey Mike, if the rainy weather lets me punch through to the Blue Ridge roads, I'll be on my way Sun morning. PM me and we can trade phone numbers, my internet access will be by chance, at best, until I make it into Goose Creek...figuring tues nite, maybe wed. Depends on how much exploring I end up doing. My alternate rain-evading route is coastal, should be about the same time frame tho. Can't wait to get started...I'm all giddy like a schoolgirl

Just wanted to drop in and say I love the pics and are very representative of what you can find in and around the SC coast. I live near Savannah, GA and ride up near Beaufort a lot. Occasionally I make it all the way up to Charleston, and every so often I ride up to Allendale. The SC coastal roads are wonderful to ride this time of year. You got me thinking about riding to Hunting Island tomorrow

Sorry I missed you Mike. I left sun morn, zig zagged from beach to coastal plain the whole way down, did the barrier island trip (camped at Cape Hatteras) and wheeled into Goose Creek wed eve. Spent the night with my nephew and his family, and the impending tornado weather blew me back to the coast early thurs morning. I holed up at yet another sandy campground at the SC/NC border, and rode the magnificent NC back roads the next day (Fri) to the NC/VA border. Found a great spot (free) on a power cut, my only neighbor a horrible rasping coyote (had to tell him to knock it off), and spent the morning tear-down and caffeine wake up marvelling at the number of Ospreys working the nearby lake. I will plan my next trip around this spot! The ride through VA sucked, just because the traffic was irritating, and no where to get a burger and a beer...what is with this state?
My gps led me in a dumb 'shortest route' right to Manassas...and I, like a moron sheep, listened, until it was too late. Found myself in a sea of flying automobiles, and relentless traffic lights. The worst part of a fabulous journey. Finally blew into the ranch at 8pm Sat night...the old DR650s, my Natasha, still running like it was a casual morning stroll. I love that bike! Me, 80lbs of gear, and 2k mi later...the only casualty being a cheap Ebay x ring chain, and a new-now 50%- D606 Dunlap rear. Glad I had it on, tho. It made the camel jump, when needed.
I did get to see Cypress Gardens, and being there at 7am, they had not yet opened...but the gates were opened beckoning me, so I strolled in, took some pics, and communed with the squirrels for a bit...beautiful there! And no visitors....and free!
I'll be back, we can get together, I hope.

Next time then, Lawrence

Finally was able to get out for a bit, even if only to Cypress Gardens. Really want to get out to Francis Marion NF and do some Fire Roads...a couple critters showed their faces, but mostly just one big color break today:

Think I'm finally getting the hang of standing on my head to snap a photo

Well, decided to go sunset hunting to end the day:

Russell Creek, Edisto Island:

Here is proof positive that I need to use a tripod when on full zoom with the 75-300 non-IS lens:

A fitting way to end to another great day in a Land that is Free because it is the Home of the Brave

Hope you guys all had a great day!!

Nice sunset, Mike! I got into the Francis Marion for a bit, that was fun...even with 80lbs of gear tagging along. Some of the dirt roads were wonderfully atrocious. I think I could have gotten lost if I gave it some effort. I'll be back down when I scrounge up some time and money.

It was AFRICA hot today, but got out early...did some exploring up the coast, into Francis Marion Nat'l Forest and McClellanville:

Dockside @ McClellanville, an historic fishing village...neat place!

This old boat has seen better days...

Critter encounter...he made a beeline toward me on the dock til I stood up. Then the little chicken took off across the creek. He was BIG, about 10-11'.
