I'm not sure that tickling or a stimulating experience would be an accurate description of the result if that device were in close proximity to 'the boys'.

Thanks for your participation.
Don Pardo what do we have as a consolation prize?

Next!

This thread makes me glad I was an early adopter.

Its worth the wait guys, particularly on a slant 4 K1200GT.

It was a marked improvement, more so than my R1100GS

A pain to install (remove plastic, lift fuel tank, install with long needle nose) but my gas mileage even went up 4 mpg according to the computer. Driveability much improved.

Couple vintage tube testers hanging around in that photo up there...

How is this run coming Poolside? I can't smell epoxy curing from here.

Since you spend a lot of time using one which soldering iron do you recommend for automotive/motorcycle modifications?

I'm going out on a limb and say YES! With one or two little caveats. The motor in your new Husqvarna is for all intents a BMW G650 single, but I don't know if the bike uses the same Intake Air Temperature sensor as all the other BMW fuel injected bikes. If so, then the IICE Air will work, provided there is a handy location for a ziptie within about a foot from where the stock air temp sensor is located. Which doesn't look like a problem.

I searched for an online parts fiche for the new Husqvarnas and didn't find one, so you'll be doing the recce on this. Maybe you can take some pictures of the stock air sensor and surrounding area and post it up. Or email them to me.

p.s.: Even if Husqvarna uses a different Intake Air Temp sensor or connector, as long as the temperature/resistance curve of the stock sensor is the same as the BMW bikes, then the IICE Air can still be fitted to your bike with a wire splice.)

I declare winter officially over in southern California. To celebrate, and because I'm a little ahead in my work obligations, I'm taking the rest of this week and the weekend for Air assembly.

About your soldering iron question, do you mean for splicing wires and such? I don't remember the last time I soldered a wire splice connection on a bike or car. I'll solder one or two types of connector contacts, but for wire splicing it's always a crimp connection.

For a capable workaday soldering iron, a good value is the Hakko FX-888, which is a remake of the model 936.

And you cannot fail with Kester 60/40 solder, .031" thick, with the common #66 core and '44' rosin flux. (The original 'no clean' flux, heh heh.) Use distilled water in the cleaning sponge reservoir, and keep your tip clean as they say.

The base for the FX-888 has one of those brass sponges, as well as the cellulose sponge.

The brass sponges work well too, but I really prefer the classic cellulose sponge with distilled water. Somehow the little ttssss-s-s sound when the hot tip hits the wet sponge is reassuring. It seems like the tips last longer too. And that's quite enough innuendo I think.
