Does this work with the Booster Plug or instead of the Booster Plug? The booster Plug made the throttle a little smoother from 0-3000 rpm not buttery smooth which is what I want.

Will this give me that buttery smooth throttle?

You could say that the IICE Air is an adjustable Booster Plug. It's adjustable so it will work with the upcoming Cool and Smooth products.

Let's talk about that smooth throttle. First a question about 'from idle to 3000rpm'. Are you talking about accelerating quickly, accelerating slowly, holding a constant speed, or something else?

Doing slow speed maneuvering mostly.

Ok. Would you say primarily constant speed, or primarily changing speeds? And if changing speeds, slowly changing speed, or gassing it up a couple thousand RPMs?

Changing speeds like going around a 90 corner and trying to do it smoothly. Nothing where I would rack the throttle open and closed just trying to make adjustments to the throttle up and down under 3000 rpms and having it be smooth.

Johnny,

You and I both have '07s ...your GS vs my GSA...I had the BP, unplugged it and the put in the IICE Air...with the Air on the 90 degree corners you asked about, at slow [1st gear] speeds I found the throttle was easier to modulate and had less, not zero, problems with surging or abruptly doing the "I am off" no "I am on" thing.

Plus if the lean got too much picking up the throttle to stand the bike up more was quicker and more in control...even going up to 2nd at lower RPMs was easier since the RPMs came up like they were controlled by a rheostat ..

All this is off road and going up or down grade...

Phil

I was thinking about the question so I was playing with my 07 today below 2000 rpms and I was mighty impressed. Very tractable.

Talking Finally!!

So my IICE Air finally showed up in the mail yesterday! Once it showed up, my concern went from "Will it ever get here?" to "Will I be able to install it?" The answer to that was yes I have only done basic maintenance and farkle installs on my bikes over the years and this was as easy as anything else I have done. I took a few photos of the five minute process on my 2010 F800GS (see below).

So then the next question was "Will it work?" The answer to that is...maybe

Unfortunately, it is raining today, I was able to sneak in pre and post install rides between the downpours. Post install (with the default setting of -20) the bike seemed to be smoother on acceleration and deceleration but it wasn't a long enough test ride to set my mind at ease. I'm hoping we get a nice day before we are forced into hibernation so I can give it a thorough shakedown.

Edit to add: I took a longer ride this past weekend and I'm not so sure how much improvement there was. It was cooler than before and I didn't have time to play with the different settings, but I'm not 100% ready to say it works. Until next season.......

Thanks for answering my clarifying questions. As I understand it, the situation you're talking about is low speed 90° turning maneuvers, between idle and 3000rpm, in 1st gear.

The thing about that operational range, is that not much throttle movement happens at such low throttle settings. You know what I mean? At small throttle openings like that, a throttle adjustment is closer to being either on or off, as opposed to having any significant throttle movement.

That category of throttle movement can be called 'off-idle transient'. And to get smooth motor response during a transient throttle event requires good Transient Throttle Enrichment.

As a couple of guys said a couple of posts back, the IICE Air improves off-idle transient response to some extent. But its primary function is to improve leading-throttle acceleration. The IICE Cool is your Transient Throttle monster.

Well, mine arrived in the mail yesterday.

I'll install it and report back in, say, in March.

Mark,
No need to rush the report.

Got mine Sat. and installed Sunday (before Seahawks game) and first ride today, roll on seems easier and it pulls harder. More miles tomorrow.

IICE Cool ?

The IICE Cool is the new 'long weight'. But i'm sure it'll be worth it, if the Air is anything to go by.
