Assembly report

Hey there folks.

I'm working on the last batch over the weekend. It's looking like they'll be shipped out just in time for Xmas.

Hello Jim.

All good and dandy about the "last batch" of pine scented AIR's, but when shall your faithful (fateful?) followers expect the other 2 new gizmos (ze Cool and ze Smooth)?

Thank you, and happy holidays!

I tried to order one through PayPal the other day and received a message that there were no more available. When will the next run be?

Another question I haven't been able to find an answer for, I had a problem with shuddering at about 3K RPM when I first got the bike but I knew that was a concern so the first thing I did to it was go through the list of fixes for it. What finally fixed the problem was changing the spark plugs from the Bosch to Autolit 3923. Will this work with those plugs or would it be better to go back to the stock Bosch plugs?

I wouldn't waste money on stock Bosch plugs for your 1100. Owners have been using the Autolite 3923 for that engine for many years with excellent results. I've been running them for over 3 years (>100,000kms) without any problems in two 1100 bikes. They are inexpensive and work extremely well in that motor. Just make sure you gap them correctly to 0.8 mm (0.0315 in).

Thanks Happy. I plan on sticking with the Autolit plugs because they cured a really bad surge on this bike I was just wondering if the IICE would be compatible.

I think it's safe to say the Autolites will have no effect whatsoever on the IIce.

I just installed mine today.

If you're hoping to turn a GSA into a GSW you're going to be disappointed

OTOH, it does make a difference. To me it seems like the bike is laboring a lot less to do the same work. I know the steady state throttle is not supposed to be effected at all but it definitely seems to go down the road with less throttle input now. Tip-in (I'll borrow the cage term) doesn't seem to be changed as much as I thought it would be though. Perhaps I'll try the coldest setting later and see what happens.

Hey there Carlo. Thanks for the report. It was just the nudge I needed. I've been doing some feature development on the IICE Smooth on the R1200. And while I was at it I revisited the performance of an IICE Air on the R1200 motor, this time on a newer 1200GS. After a few minutes it was obvious that it performed just as you said. That is to say, not the same as when I originally tested the IICE Air on R1200 models years ago. I could say I was surprised about that, but that doesn't quite cover it. I'm sure there will be a lot of talk about this, and more details to discuss.

The upshot of this is an upgrade part. It will be free of course, and it plugs into the IICE Air. With the upgrade part it increases performance to optimum levels.
