Assembly report.

I could have posted this up on Monday afternoon, but I've been busy researching California Code sections for the last 2 days. Details to follow.

It's Monday afternoon. Where the heck are the parts? The bulk of them should have been here by now.

I gave a call to one vendor to see what was going on. "Sir, you placed this order as a non-taxable sale, and we do not have a 'Seller's Permit' number on file for you." Hmmm, I thought they did.

Luckily the vendor has a downloadable form that I can print out and sign, and fax back. That's good, at least it doesn't have to be mailed back. Before faxing back the form I got onto the California website to verify my Seller's permit number. And find out it has been canceled as of December without notice. Which is a little upsetting because I was in their local office in January.

Ok. I did many hours of research in the California Code sections, and you're going to get a report, like it or not. :-)

I've had this 'Seller's Permit' in California for 3 years. The account is in good standing. (All told I've had Seller's Permits in California for an aggregate total of 20 years.) I don't use this latest permit number very often, but the state requires all businesses to have one, whether or not they have any taxable sales. The test for requirement is whether you 'take actions with intent to sell'. Any actions. If so then you need a Seller's Permit. And you need one before you make the first sale.

But the state is implementing cost-cutting measures, and twice before they have sent out notices asking 'infrequent user' permit holders to verify their standing, and asking them if they still wanted a Seller's Permit. I don't know how this activity saves the state money, since on their end a little-used permit number is merely a little storage space on a hard drive. Anyway they sent out this re-verification form late last year and I filled it out and sent it in.

They cancel the permit anyway, and I make a trip to the local office in January to get it squared away. "Sorry sir, I don't know how this happened. I have reinstated you permit." And she shows me on the computer screen. Issue duly squared and we're back in business. That is until four months later on Monday when the parts haven't arrived.

Apparently whatever the local state office did to reinstate the number in January didn't take. And an online check of the permit number shows that the number has been canceled since December. Yes, that doesn't match up, but more to the point they canceled the number again. I'm going to the office on Tuesday to sort this out again.

In the office on Tuesday the question is, "Sir, are you actively engaged in selling?"

I am a model of composure, an angel in disguise. "Yes, I am." "Now reinstate the fecking number."

It's in process, and I'm going to the office again later today to get something to fax to the vendors.

Assembly report.

Ok, the Seller's Permit issue is worked out well enough for now. It even included an armed escort from the building! (Never let it be said we're not in it to win it.) The problem isn't fully sorted yet, but good enough to continue.

The two largest orders that were held up from the Permit issue are shipping tomorrow. And that represents the last of the parts. They are coming in from Arizona, San Diego, and possibly Dallas if one of the orders is split.

I'm told that the custom-made parts arrived today, and I'm going to pick them up right now.

So are you texting this report from your cell block? Do you have handcuff scares to prove it? And be sure to take photos, because as we all know if there aren't any pics it never happened.

And the marketing department truly applauds your dedication and the degree to which you are willing to go to see this project thru to completion. Truly an example of the degree in which we put our customers first. All the way to the point of having to clean the ink from your fingertips…

Yes, we don't take things lying down around here.

Though we sometimes take them while in handcuffs.

Armed guards, hand cuffs and ink... sounds like the marketing deepartment shouldn't have a problem working the "revolutionary" angle at this point.
