If the group turns out to be big (8+), i'd aim for someplace fairly close so as not to have noobs strung out across the desert. There is a small staging area on Elliot Ranch road (Cleghorn access off of 138, ~10 minutes from 15) that might work if not too many quads / UTVs screwing around. Room enough to practice, adjacent to some easy dirt roads and mild hills. Summit Inn is nearby for lunch. Also some easy riding along the RR tracks to Baldy Mesa and other dirt networks.

Otherwise, Stoddard Wells or Lucerne are both > 1/2 hr pavement away and its gonna be cold

-M

Saturday:
airborndad Leading, very slow-paced ride, true-blue noob speed, shorter distance, get acquainted with dirt, etc. optional single track, optional hill climbs, big bike friendly

SATURDAY @ 8:00am - 15 Fwy & Hwy 138 @ McDonald's

Kickstands up @ 8:30
.
Tenative route:
McDonald's to 15 frwy to Cleghorn rd to NF-3N-22 to 138
Take 138 to NF-3N45 go North hit some optional hills - single track & explore
NF-3N45 to Mariposa rd to Summit Inn for earlyish ? lunch
Cross 15 frwy to Caliente rd to Baldy Mesa rd to Mormon rocks
OR
Baldy Mesa rd to Baldy Mesa to RR Tracks Mormon rocks
Then
Mormon Rocks to Lone Pine Canyon rd
to Swarthout Canyon rd to Cajon Blvd
to Cleghorn rd to Santa Fe Fire rd
to 138 to Mc Donalds

Route and pace can / will be adjusted - faster or slower - harder / easier to make sure everyone has a Safe ride / good time

One last minute question guys. Since this is my first time I need to be prepared. I have my tank bag, is it enough or should I get a backpack as well? No camel hydration pack here. So I'll have couple bottles of water. Anything else???

Water and tire repair is all I can think of. Maybe a snack bar or two? Your tank bag should be more than enough.
