I took 1 dirt sample

1 of dirtdadx's (steeper than it looks)
this is the same place I fell over I thought I was in 1st gear but I was in 2nd almost made it then I started going backwards (rapidly) the divet I made is in the bottom left corner of the picture

Hababam adding dirt & character marks to his crashbars and elsewhere

hababam ran over and pushed rider914's bike over while he was filling it up at a gas station

ACTUALLY
rider914 rode flawlessly ALL day then before we all parted ways we stopped at a gas station for one last chat/BS session
thats when he had a kickstand failure - while completely stopped technically NOT a crash but it was laying down so hababam finally got his chance to run over to help rider914 pick his bike up instead of the other way around

My camera got gunky early on, here are my good pics that are original:

Big huge honking stinky kudos to rider914 and airborndad for dealing with my perpetual noobiness. This is a ride where I leaned heavily on them, they came through, and I had an epic ride as a result - thanks guys! And it was great watching hababam get that beautiful big katoom dirty for the first time.

That is one perspective. Another perspective...

I woke up and took a look at my balding Sahara tires and tried to figure out the worst possible conditions to ride them in. Fortunately we had a rare opportunity for such conditions in So Cal -- abundant snow and mud. The Saharas are named appropriately. They are named for a place with no snow and no mud. I guess that should be a clue

The Devore pass served up snow and mud in large quantities. As well as some new, as yet un-named lakes that have formed across local dirt roads. The Saharas enforced a speed limit even lower than my own - which is saying something. If I went too fast, I spun and slid about like a freshly landed fish. If I went too slow - well - I stopped, I guess.

About the time I gave up, airborne and rider talked me into a little more riding it turned out great. The upside is all the rain has tamed the looseness on many trails and made them tacky and great fun. Thanks again!

It is 11:00pm and I just woke up from my long "noobie first day crash" in my bed. I don't know what happened, I was reading airbornedad's threat and next thing I know I am dreaming about riding like Rider914 and Airbornedad.
Thanks a million to Raider914 and Airbornedad for being great leader/instructor/baby sitter for an epic "dirt virgin" (not anymore) ride.
I didn't know off-roading was that much fun. And I didn't know I could still be smiling while my precious orange virgin was going down in dirt, snow, etc... It was great.
From my first noob ride I learned that stock Scorpions do suck on dirt, tall off-road boots is a must and stock settings on 990 has to be adjusted for optimum off-road experience, and even the best of us falls (that wouldn't be me). The important thing is you have to get up and keep riding so you can fall again and again and again.
I was feeling really tired for an other ride tomorrow but after waking up and reading what we have been through and see the pictures, I have to do it again.
Rider914, Airbornedad and Dirtdadx, thanks again for being a great company.
So, I will see you guys tomorrow.

E.S.

ocassionally a small bike has it's advantages

When the noobies get some Knobbies their dirt riding abilities will change dramatically

most falls were due to loss of traction
Knobbies = Traction

I have a feeling most of the dirt roads they come across in their future rides will no longer intimidate them anymore after what they went through
all in all they did really good through all the ice/snow patches
we didn't expect that much snow / ice on the trail that I figured would be a noob friendly - big bike friendly trail but they wanted to press on and sucessfully conquered it

I didn't get called into work today but I still couldn't make todays ride cause my water heater went out

hope everyone is having fun
can't wait for some more pictures

just made it home safe. I just realized I had a flat front tire for about half the day. Thank goodness the bead stayed put for the freeway ride home.

It was good riding and bsing with you guys.

I am back too. 230 miles today on top of 180 yesterday.
Both great rides for me. Great roads with great people.
I learned one more thing today, I HATE DEEP SAND !!! Went down 3 times in 15 feet.
And missed a left turn, thanks to ABS, and tried to open my own trail in between bushes...
We had some nice long fast stretches and wet water crossings. All new and exciting for me.
Bottom line, two great days of riding. Thank you Rider914 for being such a good instructor and Airbornedad, Dirtdadx, Dunerat, M1Jeep, Ben99r1 and Sito the company.
Hope to ride with you guys more and soon.
