While Glen and Marty distributed aid, I rode off towards the nearest houses, hoping to find some local help. The homesteads out here are isolated and sparse. Pretty much all have a fenced compound with prominent uninviting signs. I wasn't about to hop a fence and go knocking on any doors

Saw a couple of open garages, but nobody outside, so headed back to find the boys. Getting late inthe day and temperatures were starting to drop. Supposedly a major storm arriving in a couple days, expecting plenty of rain and snow in this area. Couldn't imagine the pups surviving that. Heck, I was surprised the coyotes hadn't gotten them already.

Guess we gotta take them with us.

The dogs were a little too big to fit in a camelback, but just small enough to fit in a jacket.

We got Glen set up first with the chocolate pup and he was rolling before I thought to get a pic. Rekluse made it easy.

Marty was next with larger black-n-tan.

Awwwwwww....

Gave Marty a push to get them on their way, but now I was all alone with the small and shy black-n-tan. Only I didn't have a jacket, nor a clutchless rekluse.

No problem, I can ride with one hand, done it plenty of times (jk)

I tuck the pup in my left arm like a football, holding both forelegs in my hand

Swing my right leg over the seat and promptly topple all the way over as the suspension settles but the sidestand does not

Lets try that again...

Moved the bike to a depression so that it was leaned waaay over on the sidestand. Picked up the pup and successfully mounted my horse. A few leg pushes to get rolling, thumb the starter, click it into gear, and we are on our way

Despite my initial demonstration of incompetence, my passenger soon realized that she (I think) was in the hands of a skillfull pilot

I was surprised at how calm she was as we rode to where the others were waiting at the first houses.

I guess one owner came out to see what was up, but made it clear he wanted nothing to do with more dogs. Glen and I talked about what to do next, while Marty made some calls.

As we waited, my pup sat calmly on the tank, made no move to go anywhere else.

Didn't seem right to leave the pups here, just making them someone elses unwanted problem, so we awkwardly mounted up and moved on. In an incredible stroke of luck, Glen found a welcoming family another mile or so down the road. Apparently they had connections to a no-kill shelter over in Apple Valley and were more than happy take the pups off our hands. I was so relieved to find a happy solution that I totally failed to get the name of the shelter
(Coincidentally, these folks had already picked up a couple other abandoned dogs earlier in the day.)

Our good deeds done, it was time to hustle on home. Didn't stop us from having some fun along the way

Proof that karma is fickle, poor Marty was struck down by a sneak gravity attach near the top of Sheep Creek

Heading down Lower Lytle Creek divide, I waved Glen ahead to give him a break from the dust he had been sucking all day.

Must be getting comfy on the new bike 'cause he kept a darned good pace

Marty was tucked-in trying to keep up

Woof! Woof! Woof!
(Thats my other dog impression.)

If anybody is familiar with animal shelters in Apple Valley, i'd like to know what happened to these pups.
Guessing / hoping they would've been dropped off yesterday.
If nothing else, I may go check with the family this weekend.

Helping Paws in Apple Valley? I've taken at least 6 dogs to them, Sheree is the gal I've dealt with there. (760)694-7192, and/or (760) 694-7187. They do adoptions out of Petsmart in Victorville on Fridays, good folks. You guys are awesome!!!!! I must have just missed you, I was out riding from about 1 pm until 5. Hope this helps.

Matt and Co.

you know i'm an animal lover and that is super fucking awesome you guys took the time to help those pups.

it's a bummer there are ppl in this world who dump animals like that. you guys were their Knights in shining Klim armor.

i don't want to assume that a quick google search of no-kill animal shelters in Apple Valley is where these pups went, but they could be at ....

I have an idea

If we can find who dumped those pups, let's take off all of their clothes, and then leave them in the wild when a winter storm is coming with no food and no water. Let's also be sure to bind their hands and feet and smear some fresh rabbit blood on them so the coyotes, cougars and bobcats know where to find them.

Nice job guys.
