A couple days after we were on the trails, I noticed this spot on the 650 twins rim.




Is it bad?

Is it safe?

What is the best/cheapest course of action?

Buy a tube and carry on. I have seen worse. It can be sort of fixed by some one with a press.

I agree. You should see the rims on my ATV and it is tubeless. That doesn't affect the tube so carry on.

The bulb for the that comes on when the engine is on went out today. looking at the parts fiche it says that there are two identical bulbs on that side. That doesn't seem correct. Can someone help me out?

Hey all..........Just wondering. When you buy an F650, do you have the option of picking a "tall" seat? Or do you have to take the low.

You can pic either. The F800 and F658 use the same seat, you can put the high or low on either bike, and the dealer should give you whichever one you want.

The regular height f658 is lower than the F800. You can get a factory lowered F658 as well to make it super low.

The low Beam, which is the larger bulb on the larger side of the headlight assembly, is a H7 bulb, should be available at most automotive / spares stores.

A block of wood and a hammer!

Remove the wheel from bike. Remove the tire from Rim (preferably). Brace the rim over two or three large blocks of wood (beneath it.....stabilized). Then, place a smaller block of wood (like a short piece of 2x4 on end) against the ding and began whacking hard with the hammer. Should be able to get it back close, it won't be exactly perfect.....but doesn't need to be to function properly.

Don't hit the rim directly with the hammer. You will have to hit the block of wood very hard, several times (most likely). I've done this procedure countless times on all kinds of bikes. However, they have all been spoked wheels. Never tried it on one like yours, but can't see why it wouldn't work equally well.

Yes, you will get some scratches on the rim. Get over it. Scratches are battle scars with character. They are better then big dings. Just sayin

Yup....+1. And they usually have several brightness options. I swapped both of my bulbs to a much brighter version and the headlight is producing plenty of light for me now.....where it was rather lousy before (with stock bulbs). About $25 for a pair at O'Reilly's Auto Parts, in my little town.

By the way, this is the easiest bike to change bulbs on I've ever touched in my life. BMW really made a smart design for this. Just unscrew the round black cover on the back of the headlight assembly. Flip down the wire clip and voila!

Easy peasy.....no tools required.

I went and looked at the bike and now see the two H7 bulbs. Off to the auto parts store

Manual mentions not to remove grease from axle?
Is there a reccomended grease for axle?
Can one use wheel bearing grease to coat axle with.
The front did seem quite grayish?
Or is it best to do as they say just not remove grease from axle?
I read most of this thread did not see mention.
Tire threads too long to reread.

That Pirelli really did not want to leave that rear wheel.
