As one of probably many dreamers who wish they could do they same, I am wondering what the ballpark estimate cost would be for such a makeover, assuming you already had the bike?

SSDave - I'll be in for over $6K in parts, probably approaching $7.5K. Probably about 150 hours of labor by the time it's done. It's definitely not cheap, but so very cool...

I had one for my 2010 450 and used a Force bash plate.

thanks for the pics that is a huge space there, it certainly would be worth considering if i had the 2008exc mask and light but my mask/light is like this:



and uses different mountings to your headlight/mask

It's a Berg item, came stock on the US 570S Bergs that came street legal from the factory I think?

I bet the intake rocker locked up on the shaft. This has been an issue on a few bikes.
Tell him you will give him 1500 and bet you can fix the top end for 1000 or less.

update - I bought that bike, and as expected, there are more problems then meets the eye, when bike owner is a complete monkey... I had that "dont do it" feeling, but it was so cheap...
head was completely mangled, beyond repair..hole in piston let a bunch of metal onto the bottom end, so I split the cases, replaced the mains, etc
new head and cylinder form ebay, motor is going back together
Also of course half the bolts were stripped, including oil drain
replacing most bearings, wheels, swing arm, steering stem
no fluid in suspension, so the pogo sticks are off to factory connection
estimate 5-6 k and a couple months of work.. oh well at least I know everything will be fresh
