Yes, more photos, please.
Only pic. The black RS's with gold accents, are they a special edition?

John Player Special. They were a BMW Australia initiative in 1981-2 where they had 30 or so done.

Like many of the BMW special editions, they sported a special paint job and a nifty badge. A stock R100RS underneath though.

Any further info on them from BMW doesn't exist thru normal corporate channels (ie, an email inquiry ) as the staff that might know about them don't work there anymore or didn't want to waste their time finding out.

At the time, Jim Richards was racing a 6 series in the same livery here in Oz, so it was a little advertising to boot.

I had heard from someone I can't remember that there was a container accident, and they chose to repair a bunch of bikes in this look. I have my doubts, as the marketing angle has more plausibility around the time that sales were dwindling. That was also what BMW did with paint jobs etc....

My first R100RS. Sold after the second detente spring sprung. Magnificent paint job, destroyed at the front after one stint on a dirt road over near The Flinders Ranges.
Sacked centre stand was a anti theft feature!

My RS, loaded down and headin' to the Texas hill country! Taken on Hwy. 287 north of Amarillo. These rocks were interesting. Got pulled over by a Texas LEO south of Amarillo. The reason given was speeding ( not much). I think he thought I was a whack job out in cold weather. Well, he was right! No ticket, just a warning. I didn't see another rider out on the open highway for the whole trip. Nine hundred miles or thereabouts during the first 24 hrs.

I'll play- here's mine from a couple years ago; ride over the North Cascades Highway in the fall.

Runs like a top. '79 model, pretty much stock.

Cool-- a thread dedicated to the best looking faired bike I've ever seen, one that I'd love to have.

Keep 'em coming.
