Riding near Asheville, NC?

It looks as if I'll have family moving to the Asheville, NC area soon. Leicester, NC to be exact. Looking at the area map it looks rather interesting for a motorcycle. Should I bring the GS out there or a KLR?

Those of you in the know... What is this area like?
Is it relatively close to Asheville or is it really out in the sticks?
Are there good roadways through these mountains, will there be 4-wheel drive roads or single track readily available?
Is this part of the country safe and friendly?
It's my Mother who is making the move, so I'm inclined to know about Hospitals, Airports and shopping too.
What about the economy and jobs, who makes the money and how much?
Is Construction strong in that part of the country?
What are the average temperatures, rainfall and such.

I met a person from NC once and...
Just tell me... Its not Deliverance or anything like that, is it?

I don't think there is anywhere good to ride a motorcycle near there.

No he is serious, don't waste your time with NC, go to the good riding in Florida. No curves or hills to slow you down.

almost heaven...

.....make the move. It is motorcycle nirvanahhhhhh, Blu Ridge Pkwy. Deal's Gap, Cherohala Pkwy. and tons of other sparsely traveled side roads (watch out for locals cutting across center line). Leicester is 20 mins out of Asheville. The major economy is the Hospital, Mission/St. Joe... the rest of the economy is service based and low paying. Real estate is expensive in Asheville, not so much in the sticks of Leicester which is still a little rouge in the head and shoulder area. Seasons are well defined but mild. Two large malls in town and a Asheville airport will get you anywhere you want to go. I prefer to fly out of Greenville, SC 70miles away and offering cheaper flights. If you have any further q's send a PM and I'll be happy to help.
