Fabulous 5 day trip out in the Wallowas, including 4 out in McCully Basin in yurts by Wallowa Alpine Huts. Our group snow camped in Wing Ridge last year. Having a wood stove and a keg of Boneyard to come back to after a day of skiing the mountains is luxury. We did the DIY option and hauled in our own goods.

Looks like an awesome time! Maybe that should be the ADV ski adventure next ski season

I liked the Anthony Lakes idea better.
They have lifts

Nice trip, Matloik!!!

YES, this would be a great ADV ski trip! However, backcountry ski gear and experience is a prerequisite. And it definitely is very different than a day at the resort--it's also about enjoying the 'work' of hoofing it on skins a few miles and a few thousand vertical feet for those epic 3 runs of the day. It was 5 1/2 miles from the SnoPark to the huts; we got a pull on a snowmobile for first 1.5-2 miles; and it took 4+ hrs to skin in the rest, pulling our gear sleds and taking turns on pulling the keg sled, up 1500'. From camp it was 1000-1500' feet to the tops of mountains there. We'd be suited up and ready for avy beacon check at 10 am; and back to camp after skiing around 4-5 pm. Plenty of beer and whiskey was partaken of. After 4 days my body was wracked, but in a good way.

These outfits also offer fully supported trips, for 3 times the cost, where you only have to bring your backcountry backpack--adding a bag liner and change of underlayer--they supply everything else, including cooking all meals. I want to do that option another time also.

By the way, you may or may not recognize one of our ADV own in the pics. dvwalker was in orange jacket.

WOW Matloik - you guys hit that just about perfect eh?! Haven't been up in there during the winter but several trips to the Matterhorn for spring corn via Hurricane creek. Winter looks MUCH better - nice trip!

We did the catered trip and it was well worth it. I pulled one of those fuckng sleds up Denali and swore I'd never do it again.

You got blessed with good weather!

I'm game for wallowas or Anthony lakes! Or both!
