Well crap, just replaced old fluid with fresh mineral oil.
Lineaway, you are correct. I found it on the GasGas site. '04 Raga and '05 and newer take the mineral oil. I flushed, re-flushed, back bleed and re-bleed with DOT4. What's the worst that could happen...? It's right now. Lesson learn.

Finally broke out the Gas Gas for the first time in couple months and mixed up some fresh fuel with the Bel Ray Synthetic oil I had picked up last month. I had been using Motul when I first got the bike but had read up here that it will separate in the cold weather so am not going to use it again for a couple more months. Putted around the lot looking for trees showing signs of wanting to be firewood this spring, didnt find any volunteers other than the two that have already shown signs of being ill. Also I was reconning where to make some sections on the slopes to the side and rear of my 5 acres this spring. I will have to break out the camera next time and show you guys the area I have to work with for some ideas.
After it got warmed up I drained the fluid and changed it to some BelRay 75W two stroke clutch oil to see if I could help with the clutch dragging problem I have been having. It helped fairly well but I still would like to reduce the dragging so I could use two fingers instead of four on the clutch. I will start another thread on that subject and see if the brain trust can help me determine if I need clutch plates/springs or not.

![]() The diffrance between the two for the most part as I understand it is how they are affected by water, and what they would do to any of the rubber seals. Considering that it wasn't in there long it shouldn't cause any issues. But I admit I am not sure what type of rubber they use so am not 100% sure. The last time I put in the wrong kind of fluid in a system it was on purpose to cause the rubber seals to swel and seal up better (short term fix to get a friends car home without leaking all the fluid out), after that we rebuilt the system and it was fine. The funny part is that was so long ago I don't even remember what fluid we used... but it worked great... |

Power steering fluid has been used to fix a leaky brake system in a friends Renault. Lasted longer then the rest of the car did. AFT in a crankcase has been known to take a weeping seal and make it a pisser. Not saying that these examples are always true. Just a few examples I have known from my (and my friends) mis spent youth. |

Brake fluid
For brake fluid and clutch fluid in any trialer Dot 5 works very well.Silicone is inert so it is compatible with any type of seal.It is also very fade resistant.

No worries Jonny, it was a quick fix. Worst case I change some o-rings in the distant future. I like tinkering anyway.

![]() Went to Santa Rosa yesterday. Beautiful day, no other riders. :-( (found I have no phone reception out as well, not a smart thing to do, ride alone and not be able to call for help if I break something on me) I was given a section last Sunday to practice on. In about 30 runs, cleared clean only once. Learned a bunch about proper tire pressure i think. I was running 7 pounds in front and 4 in the rear. Front end would stop dead when encountering a rock in a full lock turn. Rear tire would stop the bike in a slow maneuver when it would hit a small rock. Raise both pressures to 10 psi, so much better for this noob. Tires would actually roll over the obstacles. |

Trials has been around for, well a century, but I've rode for 40 years. So, you Should think that if this "tip" was so good, we'd all be riding with too much air pressure in our tires, by now. BTW, Riding alone, means you will do it wrong, for much longer than most. Just sayin. |

New In the stables
Picked up 2 Gassers last Weekend; A '92 GT32 and a '95 Contact JT-250.
Both have cracked lower triple trees, '92 is missing all it's plastics the 327 is now in pieces, the frame stripped, straightened, and waiting for powdercoating. Thinking about hooking up a lighting kit, plasti-dipping on some "rad" 80's fluorescent Dazzle camouflage, and making her an Urban ripper for tooling around here in Bloomington. The '95 runs fine but has a double head gasket (lower compression ratio, seen this on old 280 Climbers, I guess to ease kicking?) and a super low range rear cog. I imagine an adolescent or women's bike. Just broke the gear shift lever off the '95 (Bikes are from KY) JB welded splines on a cracked&stripped lever gave up, I expected no less. Making up a laundry list so I can call RisingSunImports up in Lafayette and get these running before the weather breaks. I'll be balancing on the lifeless 250 in the garage all weekend. |
