bars might look higher because of the riser, but they fit the bike and my riding position really well. besides the Fastways, no changes to the footrests, or seat. i've been sitting on the bike a bit to check the ergos, not the same as actually riding, but everything feels good to go so far. the bike is obviously taller, and has a different feel to it with the DRZ forks.

there seems to be interest in these 650R/Versys rats, an inexpensive way to get a custom ride. plenty of PMs with questions on the build in general, and also on sourcing bikes and parts, shop fabricated assemblies, and so on.

pm a price on the fender.

$20 plus shipping. I can ship it inexpensively. I also have one of the Acerbis Supermoto fenders in black. Same for it.

There you go Dave, you can have eagle beaks on front and rear and make a fairing out of the Acerbis......

this is bike three with the same motor, so i guess you could say i'm a believer.

here's one of the reasons for this choice and why i stuck with it. to get to the places i want to ride on an extended trip, i face some serious transit miles right off the bat from my starting location. 3000 miles to glacier, for instance, and i'm not taking a freakin' week to get there. that means the package has to have horsepower and speed, and it needs to make it effortlessly all day long. sea level to mountain passes means fuel injection. six speed with two overdrive gears means a choice for about any condition plus good fuel economy. long days in the saddle, that motor just has to be smooth runnin'.

that's the picture, of the motor anyway.

so the challenge is really to build a very capable bike around this great motor. the bike needs to get you way out there...and back.

you've been there, so you already know you're not going to do that 1406 at 3-400 per day...you're going to be drinkin' a cold one at Glacier at the end of day 2. the bike needs legs to do that, and it can't numb your butt, hands, and feet with vibes while it gets you there.

siyeh, you in countdown mode yet...or just concentrating on the Game.

then you must be the only one in the state.

got a call yesterday from a friend just south of Madison. said he had 10-12' drifts blocking the county road in front of his house, the worst he's ever seen for a blizzard.
