Question 950 Adventure Exhaust/Muffler Poll

Planning to purchase an 04 950 Adv. At the moment it has the stock cans on it. I am curious to know the most popular exhaust/muffler for the 950 Adv. Sound and performance.

Tried many 950 pipes, and nothing holds a candle to an unbaffled Akrapovic set.
Problem is, they're the most expensive.

I'm happy with my FMF Q4: Light, cheap, easy to install, and not too loud.

I'm going to buy an '04 950 next week with a Staintune exhaust. I don't know how it sounds. I like quiet. Actually, my wife likes quiet. I might be interested in your stock ones if you want to sell them. I'll see how the ones on it are first.

That is a distinct possibility.
Having had a few Duc's (900SP was my fav), there's nothing like the sounds of a well tuned Euro-type twin.
To make even more music......I put a vented cover over the clutch.

Exhaust

Akrapovics all the way. They are expensive that's for sure.

What do you want? Status? Loud? Function? Cooler? Cheap junk? There is a muffler for each of these.

When you install them, do you need to do anything to the engine? I have a 2010 990 Adventure and would love to offset the weight of some of the goodies I want to install, and since the Akropovic's are lighter, etc. etc. that might be a great way to offset the luggage and extra protection pieces (without going to a full 2 into 1 exhaust system).

I have not read much on them, and honestly I'm not a huge fan of the whole lound exhaust sound thing - not that I don't like the sound of a well tuned, strong engine, just not a real lound one (I'm probably sounding my age or older - I was told I would turn into my father one day!). I would also like to know if the Akropovics add much power?

From what I have read the Akropovic's are probably the best ones available - and probably about the most expensive! Please if anyone can let me know how much weight I would save over the stock ones, if I will have to do anything to the stock engine - mapping, etc, will this have to be done at the dealership, etc. I know the "R" model Adventure has more horse power, and I know I have seen a thread that talks about the way you can get this by changing the mapping, is this something that could be done while it's being corrected from the exhaust change, if it needs done? Also are there street legal ones and "off road only" ones from Akropovic?

I do think they look very nice on the bike. Sorry if I hi-jacked the thread for off-track questions.

Here's an example of what the stock and Akropovics (with the inserts installed) sound like.

I absolutely love the Staintunes product always have. A beautiful piece of equipment. However, one week after installing my Wings pipes I drop it and dent the left side pipe. $1000 dollars for pipes, I'm pizzed! Had I spent $1500 for Staintunes or $1700 Akrapovics I'd by suicidal.
No slight on the Wings, they are extremely well made and they sound phenomenal!! I'd definitely buy them a second time.

Wings.

2 different baffles sizes (or none) to tune the sound level to your liking.
