North Greece: Lake of Kerkini & ''Rupel'' bunker
It was Sunday the 5th of Decemer as we (=North Greek BMWbikers) decided to make a day's excursion to the Lake of Kerkini and to the ''Rupel'' bunker, close to the Greek - Bulgaria border.
Lake of Kerkini is a protected area. During the Summer a lot of different kinds of birds (incl. flamingos) ''visit'' the lake mainly for reproduction reasons...But also during the winter it is a very nice travel destination...someone can see wild horses (...''wild horses''=a nice Jethro Tall song...remember????...anyway), cows and of course can taste the very - very tastefull traditional Greek food...Enjoy the pics...
Our Meetpoint, early in the morning
our first coffee stop at the lake...nice view over the lake...

After the riding arround the like, we left it to visit the ''Rupel'' bunker. And now some historical data:
The ''Rupel'' bunker was build during 1914. It was firstly used by the Greek army during the 1st world war against the Bulgarians (1916), to protect the Greek dominion and secondly during the 2nd world war against the Germans (1941). The battle against the Germans has been held between the 6th and 10th of April 1941. After capitulation with the Germans the bunker has been given to the Germans...enjoy the pics...
the battle memorial at the entrance...
the corridors inside the bunker are about 30m down of the ground surface and their length is coming up to 6.5Km...
