Great report Keith! I enjoyed every word of it, even when your bike was self destructing. I love these reports where you are to complete your trip against seeming insurmountable odds.
Great job! You and your buddies are to congratulated.

Thanks.... I guess if we'd have done this on 4 F650 Bmw's... not many folks would have cared... ( not that many do... but at least here... you guys get it.. )

The Adventure didn't start for me until things started going wrong.... ...

Wow!

That was great!

Might be the Rum and Cokes talking, but my list of heros has grown.

But Crocs Dude? Really?

Anyway that was a spectacular way to waste a couple hours that I could've been doing something constructive, but I enjoyed the hell out of it so...

Hey, I've got a son who watches professional wrestling, but he's only 7.

Good deal on you for the ECTA. Been thinking about putting a Target master 350 in the 170 thousand mile 84 vette in the garage and trying for an official 130 mph. Dad swears she did it on the truly worn original engine.

That was a wonderful ride report. I hope my son rides with me someday, his big sister shows more interest though.
Why I'm more scared for her I don't know.

the Vette will run 143 with a good tune up on the stock motor... little squirt of Nitrous and it gets happy over 150.... ( think seat, Fire system, so on and so forth )....

135 requires long sleeve shirt... pants, Snell 2005 Helmet and stock 3 point seat belt...

So basically I'm liking Stock type stuff.... come have some Fun...

K ( by the way.... did you notice how bad he'd destroyed that tire since Mexico.... so now he's scrounging off the "parts bike" Seems it's tire only had 2300 miles on it )

Keith, thank you very much for sharing your ride. Brian over at BangShift.com turned me onto your piece and I couldn’t stop reading it. Reminded me of my first read of Luigi Barzini’s Peking to Paris - I could not put it down.

A very long time ago my 3 son’s (at the time ages 16, 14 and 6) and I rode two Harley Sportsters from Tucson, AZ to Mexico City and back, over 4,000 miles in 22 days. My boys and I still ride motorcycles to this day. You’ve met my youngest (Lane) who is now 40, he drove our Black 2005 Silverado at Drag Week 2008. We are coming back for DragWeek 2011 – looking forward seeing you and Tanya in September…

Yes, indeed a great read! Thanks again.

Wishing you and yours the Best of a New Year.

By the way I've finally figured out what was up with my scooter...

Mine was the bike that was Seized as a result of sitting outside in the weather for many years up in Delaware. I'm pretty sure the right side of the bike was the "Up" or exposed side and it got water in that carburetor... just a tick ... but some..... and the intake Valve was most likely open a bit.... but not to far....

So rust developed in that chamber. Marvel mystery oil solved the "Stuck" problem but couldn't fix the wear the rings got while they were cutting through that rust to clean up that cylinder liner... So that having been said the rings were junk and the chamber was suspect .... when it expanded with heat the rings would start to loose their seal and compression would suffer to the point it no longer fired....... Soon as it cooled down... the marginal rings were just good enough to let it run "okay"

Ultimately the rings were also allowing oil in the cylinder which most likely caused detonation and the that's what took out the piston.... then when the piston got a hole in it... some of the aluminum from the piston got on top of it and squezed between the piston and the head and lifted the head a bit on the gasket.... Unsealing the #3 cylinder causing me to eventually loose compression on that chamber too...

Fun stuff.... ( we're sticking a big bore kit on it and going to build a cafe racer out of the Jamming Family truckster... )

Wow, what an awesome report and a great way to bring together four buddies ! So cool you locate the bikes and get them all going. Brings back memories of simpler times, when I did trips with whatever gear and bike I could lay my hands on, like my old CB360t, CB 350 Four and 400F. Those Hondas got me into riding when I was a teen, just tooling around the Pacific NW. Thanks for taking us along!

Great story about the 550's, NOLA, friends & border crossings! The last 18 "I'm not a quitter" miles had me rolling . I could feel the hot oil all over my right leg!

This is Kerry from update training this past wknd. Holler at me if you need a riding partner for the TAT!
