Thumb Southern DS Loop

I have been thinking about this for some years now. I would like to put together a Southern loop that is as much dirt as possible thru the South. I was inspired by Deadly99 and his trans Canada route. A loop that would give everyone a taste of all the South has to offer. It would include GA,NC,SC and maybe even E TN or N FL. Something that is doable on a bigger DS bike but have access to some side trips to ORV for some technical riding-Windy Gap anyone? A loop that takes you thru red clay, rodumdendrum, granite, spanish moss, palms, hills, flatlands, lowlands and mountains. The possibilty of seeing wildlife from grouse, qual, deer, trout to gators, bears and dolphins. And any points of interest along the way. I am thinking of a wide loop that runs the coast of SC up into the hills and mountains of NC & GA. This way someone from FL , AL or Wv could easily jump on via 95,75 or 20. Being a loop vers a trans route you would always be heading home- all be it the long way round. And would be doable on a long 4 day weekend or so. Why most of use would love to do a cross country ride. The time and exspense of it just isnt feasible for us. To do this right is no small under taking. And like most of you I have a couple of kids, a job and a wife that takes up most of my time. So I thought we could do this like Deadly99 and the gang-group effort. We can build it in sections. Then piece it together. That way we can preride and fine tune the sections nearist to us. Maybe some of those dirty DOGS in GA can help. So what do yall think?

First Things First

If we do this we will have to come up with a cool and catchy name for it. That abbreviates well. I think it is mandatory. How about SDSL? OK your turn.

I will try to find my GPS file of a DS route I complied a couple of yrs ago that was designed to start at the Atlantic ocean in Charleston and eventually connect to the TAT in Mississippi. It incorporates a lot of the Chattahoochee FS routes from near Clayton to Ellijay then through the NW section near Summerville, GA and on to the Bankhead NF in NW Alabama. It is a convoluted route designed to maximize FS roads.

Awesome that sounds like a great start. That will take care of alot of it. Did you run thru Francios Marion SF on the FS roads from Charleston? I have been eyeballing some of those FS roads on Google earth. They looked very promising.

Similar thoughts - story starts at 17477 - read on for a few pages. CraftyCoder may have a perfect collaboration platform with some fancy automation capabilities.

Could also look at IntoTheNew's model.
