It's great to see good pictures of NZ. We were there several years ago, back before we started street riding, and everytime I see a ride report like this, I jusyt want to go back and rent a motorbike.

I know the rain

Back in 1990 I bought a used Honda 250 and rode NZ north and south islands. Greymouth made me wish I had a car it rained so much and hard! I LOVED NZ and would go back in a heart beat!

Yeah we are finding that out. Currently holed up in a back packers in Franz Joseph waiting for the Gods to stop flushing their dunny on us.

Planning our trip north this arvo, looking at somehow joining up the Rainbow Road, Porika Track, Braeburn Track & Maruia Saddle Road and then down through Molesworth station before back to Christchurch.

Word has it that the Porika track might be out of our comfort zone with two fully laden big bikes and of course the unknown is the weather and how the crossings may have been affected by the deluge.

Word is probably right about that. You'll love the Maruia Saddle, Braeburn & Rainbow tracks though.

Cheers

Great ride report and photo's Mike.C. Can you give us a break down of the mods you made to your GS650's before the ride.

I'm planning on getting one to set up just as you have.

Cheers

My wife and I vacationed there just recently ourselves late Nov to just before Xmas. Rented a GSA for a couple of days to ride around in the south, absolutely fantastic place, great people. If anyone goes there and wants to rent a bike check out these guys http://www.motorbiketours.co.nz/pages/6/about-us.htm
Mike and Carol - outstanding people, made us feel like family even parked our camper at their house for a couple of nights.

Looking for a place to stay on the western shore go here: http://www.pancake-rocks.co.nz/cottage.html Nikau suite - amazing views and reallll nice place. Neil and Karen also outstanding people.

Look forward to more on your trip around NZ!
