DS riding within a couple hours of DC...

I'll be staying in Wheaton MD for the week between the holidays. I'd like to bring a bike with me and get some dirt road or trail riding in. Any suggestions within a couple hours of DC. Thanks.

There's very little dirt within a couple hours of DC. There are are a few miles of rocks you can play on at Peter's Mill/Tasker's Gap OHV area near Edinburg VA. I've never looked for dirt roads, I suspect you might find a few here and there, though they will likely be residential and not well suited for recreational riding. I've been away for 3 years and just got back a few months ago so may be unaware if there is anything recent that opened up. When I was living here full time I almost gave up on off road riding and mailed my bike to Colorado when the chance came. I'll probably get a small bore two stroke eventually to play around on some private property I occasionally have access to.

The ride to the top of Redish Knob (WV, but only just IIRC) is nice. Its paved, but tight and steep and with great views from the top.

Yeah I found that out!!

Left upstate NY this morning 16" of snow and still coming down without a bike figuring it would have been a waste of time. I was surprised when I got down here this afternoon and the ground was clear.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations.
