We moved around and viewed the track from a few more angles.

We were lucky the giant spiders didn't attack us

Proof that i was really there:

Wanna guess what all these Porsches cost?

How about this rig?

By far the coolest and most inspiring thing I saw was this:

This bike was rigged to be ridden by a parapalegic rider. The guy was riding in the expert class and those guys were seriously fast

Here's a video of the guy who rode the bike in the last pic. Very inspiring.

Went out for another dual sport ride. Yankee Dog posted a short ride on the Wheeler Truck Trail. I just rode it the previous weekend but it was a great day for a ride and I would have the chance to meet Yankee Dog for the first time in person. Here's a few pics:

The open areas of the trail were pretty dusty. I didn't know it at the time but dust was getting into my camera and by the end of the ride the lens was getting stuck when going in or out.

This time I got some pics of the water crossing.

Time to try something new. There was a Gymkhana scheduled for Saturday in Montevallo at the Alabama traffic Safety center there. I started planning for this months ago. The only question was which bike to take. I really wanted to do this on my Super 8 but that would mean hauling it down in the truck. I ended up riding down on the Sport City. It was about 125 miles of mostly interstate. I stopped in Hartselle, where a friend on a KLR joined me for the ride down.

When we got there I found they had three courses, one for trikes, and advanced course and an expert course. So I headed for the expert course. Looking at the confusing array of cones in the parking, they made little sense to me. Watching a few others go through didn't help much. Luckily someone volunteered to lead me through the first time. It turns out that he was the fastest person out there that day.

Then after a few times through, I got the hang of the course. Years ago i did the MSF ERC course. There was nothing remotely challenging about that course. This was much more interesting.

Then i went over to the advanced course. The course was easier and faster but I never did make it through correctly. They were calling for last call to sign up for the timed competition so I headed off to do that. I had the only scooter there so they put me in the cruiser class on the expert course. I headed over, did another lap, then it was time to start the competition. A couple of friends took some pics of me.

I ended up winning my class, but that's only because the fast riders were in other classes. There were some real impressive riders in the touring class. There were three motor cops who were really good.

.

This gal was real good. I think she weighed around 100 lbs and her bike around 800.

Another good rider. You could hear him scraping hard parts all the way around the course.

Got my pic on one of the police bikes.

Another inmate takes my scooter for a spin.

Then I headed home. I took 31 part of the way instead of just staying on I-65. Total miles for the day was around 270. I'm looking forward to doing this again.

I had a great day of riding yesterday.

I started off by heading off to Midway Cycles to order an air filter for my KLR and new front tar for my Super 8. While there i was talking to the owner. He mentioned that one of the Kymco DT300s in the showroom was prepped. So I took it for a short test ride.

I did a review of my ride here: http://bamarides.com/ride/scooters/k...300-test-ride/

To sum it up, this is a great scooter at a fantastic price. If I were looking for a new scooter this would most likely be it.

Then I went out for some dual sport riding in the afternoon. It was about 40 miles from my house to get into the dirt. This was not some easy gravel roads like in the Wheeler Wildlife refuge and I was glad to be on my 300 lb XT with knobbies and not my 400 lb KLR with 50/50 tires.

Had a great day last Saturday. There was a dirt skills day scheduled at a nearby ORV park so I decided I was a prime candidate for this. Although not new to off road riding, I never had any training and all kinds of bad habits. I was planning on riding the XT350 but found a nail in the tire about an hour before I was planning to leave. So I took the big pig KLR.

It was about a 45 mile ride to the Holly Tree Off Road Park. I spent some time wrestling the big pig around in the dirt.

We had 12 people show up from complete noobs to some experts.

.

Dirt GP8

Some whoops.

This stuff would have been easy on the XT but quite a workout on the KLR. I definitely found some bad habits to work on.

More pics, videos and info on Holly Tree are here: http://bamarides.com/ride/events/ds-...-in-n-alabama/

Then I got these pics on the ride home:

I posted up a get together on the Bamarides forum. 17 people showed up to eat some of the best wings in Alabama.

As usual, we had a diverse collection of bikes show up.
